I don't think so, without the tea party Specter would probably not be at risk of losing the primary.

Agreed. Specter may have been replaced by a Democrat after his death in 2012 though, since Pennsylvania would most likely have elected a Democratic governor in 2010.

No, Specter wouldn't switch parties but he'd probably still lose re-election, be it in the general or on account of the fact that he could very well lose the GOP nomination to Pat Toomey (see: 2004).

I think he wins the primary because as with 2004, he would have white house support. But I think he loses to Joe Sestak in the general by about 4 points.

White House support might not mean much if this is a scenario wherein a McCain presidency only occurred because the global financial crisis was delayed by a few months.

I think Toomey runs for Governor in this scenario, so Specter avoids a primary challenge.

That said, Sestak (at least I assume it would still be Sestak) would win in November.

Sestak might even be a possible candidate for President in 2016 or 2020.

Sestak ran for president in 2020 anyways, and he was a failed candidate for multiple offices with his only credentials being a house seat and being in the Navy. It's very likely that he would've run with a Senate seat.

No, and him and McCain were close friends, as well. He would probably get a spot in McCain's Cabinet, and then Ed Rendell would fill his seat with a Democrat, who somewhat easily beats Toomey in 2010.
