It has been noted that the MP for Stockport, a previous Corbyn loyalist, had been promoted to the front bench in the micro-reshuffle following Dromey's untimely demise.

One of a few recent signs that the "we need to expunge everybody to the left of Ed Miliband from the party" Neil Kinnock Reenactment fantasists seem to be losing the internal battle for Keir's ear.

Hopefully this will continue.

Also the suggestion that Hastings (Labour-held 1997-2010, Tory majority has been below 5k since, local council Labour-held consistently since 2010) is somehow not going to be a target seat. I suspect they've confused it with Harlow, which is a sign of either gross incompetence or the background quote having been provided after 5 pints.

Hmm, looks like former Corbyn front bencher Barry Gardiner has got into an unwise "entanglement".

There have been rumours to this effect for some time.

He does! He is large and contains multitudes (of questionable ties to foreign governments).

Starmer and Gardiner have cordially detested each other for years, so I'm sure the idea of doing so is very tempting, but there's a tendency to apply caution in cases like this. May depend on how the story develops.

Was this a Lexit thing? I can’t remember how it started but Gardiner was up their with Lavery and Trinkett in terms of the endless beef with Keir.

We should not forget that Barry was very nearly the UNITE backed left candidate for the leadership in 2020 too!

No, before. Starmer seems to have despised him before even he (Starmer) became an MP.

Those two are always amusing as, in practice, their politics aren't that far removed from his lmao. Ah, the Labour Party.

Trickett's brain has sadly been melted by the Corbyn years.

He's certainly not alone there, though more have been melted in the other direction.

By far one of Labour’s best media performers. It’s the camp energy that makes it.

It’s a shame she’s forever damaged by the 2014 (non)incident and her general smugness (often mistaken for uber middle classness) as otherwise she’s one of the most high energy Labour politicians of the last decade and would be able to play a much bigger role in the party’s public communication.

Fabian Conference today- Starmers speech got live coverage on Sky & in the Guardian.

Seems to be one of those times- I think everyone has forgotten how easy opposition can be at times.

I always wonder why Margaret does not get the credit/fame/worship or even infamy that others get- even I forget that she had served in the Callaghan Government!

The stories about her are rather worthy of a place in THIGMOO history- saying 'F**K' when she was appointed as Foreign Secretary, calling Laura Pidcock a 'silly cow' in an NEC meeting and calling herself a moron for nominating JC. Much like Jack Dromey she is someone who sat through essentially 40 years of Labour history.

Fun fact about Margeret Beckett: she was the last Labour party leader to preside over the party during a British European Parliament election that made use of first-past-the-post.

I wonder what she would have thought of the 1985 Local Government Act...
