Abbott is NOT losing, he'll win reelection in 2022 by a landslide margin.

If Abbott runs, he will likely win, but not by a landslide.  It could be quite close if Trump is still president, not to mention Abbott may retire after 2 terms anyway.

Abbott already announced last summer in an interview with the Austin American Statesman he's running for reelection in 2022 & raising money.

This is true. On the other hand, LG and AG in a Trump midterm will likely be competitive.

Let's not forget Abbott won 42% of Latinos & 16% of African Americans in 2018. Abbott is likely staying at the TX Governor's Mansion until January 19, 2027.

Abbott wins in 2022 no matter what happens at the Presidential level, though his margin of victory could be interesting.

Abbott could be an interesting Presidential candidate in 2024 for Republicans...

Well, I think Abbott could have a closer call than expected, he will probably win, but he will be the last Republican governor of Texas for a while.

true but he is very popular, but he has an interesting coalition of a lot of hispanics, Romney Clinton, and Republicans behind him. In Texas, that is a lock on any office. Not to mention the increases to approval rating every governor seems to be experiencing

A. Abbott is not losing if he runs again.

B. I am not at all sure Abbott runs again. He seems very interested in a 2024 Presidential bid.

He strikes me as great running mate material

A 2024 bid is all the more reason to run again and thereby remain more politically relevant. The only reason not to run again is if he has a Cabinet position or Cruz is expected to resign the Senate seat in 2024.

I could see him having a decent shot at winning unless someone like one of the Castro brothers or Beto runs against him.

Didn't say Abbott would lose against him, although if Beto's popular enough among young progressives (even with the AR-15 ban) then he'd probably have a good chance in the suburbs of the major cities. Swing areas like Corpus Christi and Beaumont on the other hand...probably not so much.

Greg Abbott would crush all of the above, especially in a Biden midterm.

I don't think he'd have a shot at beating Abbott unless people get really pissed at his COVID handling, but Beto ran an unapologetically progressive campaign in 2018 and he nearly won. He didn't pretend to be moderate
