There’s currently one reason why unemployed people might not be looking for jobs right now and it’s not because they get too much money from unemployment.

From the article:

Quote
“Don’t incentivize workers to stay on government-run, taxpayer-funded programs when this crisis has ended and we need them to go back to work. That’s not complicated,” Scott wrote.

Scott's not wrong as far as this goes.  But he's the last person to be making this point.

Scott's comments made me think of why I despise him.  He despises public employees (teachers, social workers, those that enforce regulations), and views the job of every public employee as an opportunity for an "entrepreneur" to make a buck off, regardless if the position that's privatized pays less, service is worse, and society is less stable because the worker is more "modestly" compensated.  Most of the social service and criminal justice woes of Florida stem from Scott's Privateers, and the crappy job they've done.  (DeSantis, to his credit, has reversed some of this.)  Yet Scott has never been opposed to any bailout of large corporations.  And he never objected to the $300 million golden parachute he got to leave HCA after the 14 counts of Medicare Fraud that occurred while Scott was HCA Chairman of the Board.

What I am beginning to really not like is that the aid is primarily for "entrepraneurs" and "businesses".  These folks (and that includes your "local businesspeople") have been crying for cuts to the safety net for years, but now THEY'RE getting a bailout.  I'm not unwilling to consider the whole of this, and the first stage is a done deal.  But income inequality has come about in America because we have systematically privatized profits, but collectivized risk and loss.  That's the part that needs to stop.  I care about workers, and I realize that we may need to subsidize some businesses (like airlines) that are essential, but can't make it.  But let's also regulate what we subsidize.  I'd like to see corporate America and "entrepreneurs" be responsible to the taxpayers that bail them out.

crying for cuts to the safety net for years, but now THEY'RE getting a bailout.....

We have a lot of corporations in Australia putting ads in Australia saying that they care about you and we are all in this together.

They are offering 30% off to survive because their cashflow has hit rock bottom, and the managers to move back from the Greek Islands where they have been on permanent holiday.

Same sociopathic lies that you are referencing.

The financial rescue packages are simply socialism for the rich. A lot of unemployed people in Australia have yet to receive a cent.

Unemployment benefits don't pay forever, so this is an unimportant concern.

Rick Scott should be in a jail cell in anything resembling a fair society.

People out of work still have expenses related to getting another job. The Internet for a job search, Travel to interviews. Dry-cleaning of their three-piece suits for use at interviews. The cell phone and other utilities such as electricity...

Yeah, life is certainly idyllic for the unemployed. And Florida has great downhill skiing in the summer.

Rick Scott is scum, but this has always been obvious. I would love for the people of Florida to one day come to their senses and realise this, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Rs believe that not putting into the treasury isnt contributing to deficits, like giving tax rebates to rich people, but they believe taking out of treasury is contributing to deficit in giving stimulus money to poor people. Typical R argument,  that's why they will be in the minority soon enough

The Master Class loves moral scum as political leaders so long as those scum facilitate the power, indulgence, and gain of those elites. Those elites invest in politicians if the payoff is adequate and reliable, as a rule for reaction instead of reform. Just because people are so rich that they can afford to act with noblesse oblige does not mean that they will eschew their worst tendencies.

Every time I see the words "Senator Rick Scott (R-FL)", I am quite disgusted. Like Pericles said, I really hope they vote Scott out in 2024, but I don't see that happening with the state's rightward trend.

Once again, I'd like to give my thanks to Nelson for sitting on his cash the entire cycle and Brenda for screwing up the ballots!

I doubt Rick Scott has any special affection for poor Republican voters several states away who utilize a service he wants to scale back JUST because they pick one of two parties and it happens to be his choice.  He’s not an Atlas poster, after all. Wink

Let's not forget that Alex Sink and Charlie Crist ran sh*t campaigns too. Nelson and Brenda are the worst though, Sink and Crist have the excuse of being in red (non Atlas colors) wave years while Nelson couldn't even win as an incumbent in a blue wave year.

The whole point is to pay people with nonessential jobs to stay home, even if they can't work remotely. Like, THIS IS THE POINT. Aarghh.

When Rs get under McConnnell or Boehner leadership, they forget about bipartisanship.  Scott had Dem support as Governor and Collins voted to acquit Trump which will cost her reelection.

That's why McConnell has the same approval as Boehner
