Additional progression with the mandatory mask orders. Starting May 4, Costco will be requiring customers to wear masks or face coverings inside of all their stores: https://www.kktv.com/content/news/Costco-to-require-masks-inside-stores-570041281.html. I've heard of some other store chains that have made the same requirement, but this is the first one to be made by a nationwide chain. I expect other store chains to follow suit. Like I've said, at the rate things are going, the vast majority of Americans will be mandated to wear masks or face coverings in at least some context-whether it be at work, in particular stores, or in particular jurisdictions-by the middle of next month.

Doesn’t really matter if states open up, people won’t go back to normal behavior until they think things are safe. People don’t want to die on the alter of “the economy.”

Nearly every single poll that comes out shows about 3/4 of the public thinks we need to keep doing what we're doing. And yet, you have governors all over America trying to quickly reopen things back up. It makes no sense.

I'm confused -- are you questioning the healthiness of wearing masks? (Not going after you, DTT, just asking for clarification).

I’m also not sure contracting Covid-19 is very healthy, but okay whatever.

It really pisses me off that people like me are worried about the health and safety of not only our own family and friends, but even those of your own. And you write us off as essentially not even being part of the same Society and country with some black helicopter type language.

I wish they polled Republicans for "attending a Trump rally". Wonder what the result would be.

Worldometer is reporting UK new deaths today at 4,419, hope it's a hack or website error and not a backlog.

edit

seem the UK government is now starting to add figures from outside sources and UK will surpass Italy to be second overall in Covid-19 deaths.

Apparently today they added deaths that happened in care homes that were not previously reported

Reopening schools should be much more of a priority than returning to work right now.

Seems like simply more evidence, along with climate change denial, that people really don’t care very much about the welfare of future generations.

This country stopped caring about that about 30 years ago.

Yeah no.
First of all, as a high school student in a typical over-crowded suburban scihool, I can safely assure you that just one infected/asymptomatic high schooler would cause about 80-95% of the students to be infected in a few days. Best case scenario is that they all get sick, isolate, and only one or two die (I attend a large school)
Worst case scenario is that there are hundreds (or even thousands) of asymptomatic kids who are vectors for transmission and spread it across the entire community.

Workplace reopening are necessary to revitalize the economy. Online school for the rest of this semester is a safer and viable alternative. Besides, we can always extend the school year, next year if necessary (tbh we should be looking into that anyways)

A lot of schools are as crowded as sports event, literally.
While they shouldn’t be seen as the same (one is clearly necessary) it’s important to keep in mind the differences between schools and most workplaces.

I think parents freak out about their children getting sick more than about they themselves getting sick even though the risk to children from the disease is near-zero.

And I do think people probably care more about their immediate paychecks than long-term investment in their children's education (which isn't totally crazy if you're in a position of not being able to pay rent/buy food/whatever).

DeBlasio needs a new PR team and needs to just quit while he's behind because everything he does looks awful.

Well duh.
I think most people here thought this was just a false-positive issue, as well.
Covid-19 is bad, but it isn’t likely going to be significantly different than other coronaviruses in this way(which do have some immunity for a period of time)

WI primary cases now up to 52 official. I imagine that’s a low ball number too.

Florida medical examiners were releasing coronavirus death data. The state made them stop.

When the medical examiners’ list was available, it showed more deaths than the state’s count.

I think this was pretty obvious to everyone who really dug into and thought through this story when it originally came out.

Unfortunately, so much damage has already been done with respect to the public understanding of the virus due to people who misinterpreted the headline and/or disseminated inaccurate information derived from this to suit their own agendas.

I'm actually shocked that Governor DeSantis put out a competent reopening plan I'm lucky that he's not opening up salons gyms or movie theaters in Phase 1

A study conducted by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has found, based on preliminary data, that patients who received remdesivir recover faster than similar patients who received a placebo. Time to recovery was reduced by four days for patients on remdesivir.

This is great news!
