DEATH OF THE STAG

Rules:
Borrowed, with some modifications, from GoTFan's version of Lumine's rules

You will roleplay as a character (such as a lord or a king) in a scenario of ASOIAF, starting in a slightly modified version of Chapter One of A Game of Thrones. Your objectives will vary, as will how you achieve them. Some will want independence, others will want to sit on the Iron Throne, and others will want to be the power behind the throne. A win is not a defined term. You will command armies, pass sentences, enact laws, send ravens and messengers, take part in high level intrigue, rule your realms and, of course, react to issues and crises.

Turns: Turns will last one week (give or take a few days) and consitute three months IG. All communication between players, OOC or IC, must include me. I will not accept communications outside of PM.

Assassination and Spies: Having been fun and successful in GoTFan's 'A Feast for Crows', players can send one spy per turn to a given region or city. Spies can get caught, but if successful they’ll give you key information that might prove crucial. Assassinations are restricted to a single attempt per turn, with a very high risk of getting captured. The idea is not to make assassination impossible, but to make it a truly high-risk, high-reward move for complicated situations. I may or may not leak moves regarding armies as well, to simulate scouting in real life.

Stats: We will work with GD (gold dragons, the amount of money you have), Prestige (of your character; a loss damages NPC negotiation and simulation), Legitimacy (how respected he is in his current position or rank; a loss brings severe trouble with vassals and allies). Please mind your stats; they can be determinant at dice rolls, vassal relationship, and NPC negotiations.

Roleplaying: I will be enforcing roleplaying. That doesn’t mean I will force all the players into a corner, but I can cancel orders that are too out of character or out of place. To use an exmaple, Stannis Baratheon will not be making peace with Roose Bolton or Cersei Lannister.

Simulation: Very simple matter, as this is my first ASOIAF game. Battles will be calculated by dice rolls. Higher number wins, margin between rolls determines the level of victory. Additional dice will be added for variables, such as force sizes, terrain, and commander skill.

Special Events: Interaction between the players should be a large part into the game, I will try to make interactive events to emphasize roleplay and allow for a more thorough immersion. There may be be Small Council meetings IG, depending on how the fight for the Iron Throne develops, just as there may be Weddings, Parleys, Tournaments, Great Councils, and so forth. Likewise, if the players wish for me to simulate a particular event, let me know. The more we roleplay the better for the game.

Sellswords and Sellsails: They will be available on this game as companies, both land and naval. They can be recruited in Essos via sending an envoy to negotiate a contract and they take a certain time to reach Westeros. A list of companies and prices will be posted, with the better known in the books as the most prestigious and powerful ones. You will be able to choose between Sellsword companies, cavalry companies, and sellsail fleets.

Cannon Material: I have not watched a single episode of Game of Thrones, the HBO show. I have read the published books. I will use the books and the Wiki of Ice and Fire as my reference materials. If there is a question, the book material will serve as the final word.

START OF GAME: 298 AC, First Three Months

Player Prompts

Cersei Lannister, Dowager Queen, Regent

Queen Cersei,

Your husband is dead and your son, Joffrey, now sits on the Iron Throne with yourself serving as regent. Your son's rule is far from secure, as his uncle, Stannis, has openly declared a claim to the throne and rumors swirl across the capital that your three children are not the true children of the late king. Your late husand's other brother, Renly, is also rumored to be staking his own claim to the Iron Throne. How will you secure your son's, and your own, seat on the Iron Throne?

King Robert's Hand, Lord Stark, has fled the capital despite your efforts to capture him. He now is believed to be moving rapidly back to Winterfell, to secure his family and his keep. Will you pursue him and will he be friend or foe? His wife, Catelyn, has taken your least-favored brother, Tyrion, as her prisoner on charges of attempted murder of her son, Bran. How will you address this slight?

Stannis Baratheon, Claimant to the Iron Throne

King Stannis,

With your brother dead, you have exterted a claim to the Iron Throne over your alleged nephew, King Joffrey, citing a rumor that the boy's father was not the late King. What will you do to push your claim to the throne?

Your other brother, Renly, is rumored to be building his own claim to the throne. Despite being younger than you, he is far more popular, charismatic, and beloved by the Small Folk. What will you do to address your brother's potential claim to the Iron Throne?

Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell

Lord Stark,

You have safely escaped the capital despite the best efforts of the Dowager Queen. With a small retinue of loyal guards and your elder children, you are stationed along the Kingsroad. What will you do now? Some in your group urge a rapid return to Winterfell and the safety it likely provides, while others belive it best to stay in the Crownlands and prepare to return to the capital. The small folk are even whispering that King Robert named you his heir on his death bed. Will you believe them?

Your wife, Catelyn, has taken Tyrion Lannister as her prisoner. She charges him with attempted murder of your son Bran, who is now crippled. Some reports say that your wife has taken the Imp to Winterfell but others say she is holding him at her father's keep. How will you address this delicate political situation with your wife?

Renly Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End

Lord Renly,

Some, including your elder brother Stannis, claim that King Joffrey is not the actual son of your late brother, King Robert. Stannis has put himself forward as the true King of the Seven Kingdoms. Some in your court are encouraging you to support your brother in his claim, to quash the Lannisters. Others, however, are prompting you to assert your own claim to the throne, as a beloved lord and skilled warrior. What will you do?

Rumors swirl across the Seven Kingdoms of your sexuality as well. Many, although quietly, wonder if you may take the company of men with more favor than you do that of women. Your bachelor status does nothing to quiet these rumors. Perhaps taking a wife and bedding her will?

Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock

Lord Tywin,

The most grave issue before you is that of your impish son, Tyrion. Catelyn Stark has taken him as her prisoner, claiming that he attempted to murder her son, Bran. Your scouts aren't sure where Catelyn has taken him; some report back that they are in Winterfell, while other says Riverrun. How will you address this attack on your noble house?

Secondly, but not by much, is the issue in King's Landing. Your grandson, Joffrey, is now sitting very percariously, on the Iron Throne, with your daughter as regent. Enemies abound and your blood on the Iron Throne is far from secure. No fewer than four potential challengers swirl: Stannis, Renly, Balon, and Eddard. What will you do?

Mace Tyrell, Lord of Highgarden

Lord Mace,

While the capital is in turmoil, your seat in Highgarden is safe. Due to your massive wealth and the ability to feed, or starve, all Seven Kingdoms, you could very easily play kingmaker in this chaos. What will you do? Your son, Loras, urges you to align with Renly Baratheon while your mother, Olena, encourages you to play the game of politics and preserve the Reach. Your beautiful daughter, Margaery, is of wedding and bedding age and could be a key piece of whatever path you take.

Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands

Lord Greyjoy,

Word has reached Pyke that King Robert has died and his son, Joffrey, does not hold the Iron Throne with great strength. The attention of most lords is on King's Landing. Many around you are clamoring for you to reignite your rebellion for an independent Iron Islands. Will you heed their calls?

Word has also reached Pyke that your disgraced brother, Euron, has been seen on the waters of Ironman's Bay. You exiled him after he took your other brother's wife and threatened him with death should he ever return. In this time of change, upheaval, and uncertainty, how will you address these reports?

Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort

Lord Roose,

For many generations, House Bolton has been under the thumb of the Starks in Winterfell. With Lord Stark gone and the Seven Kingdoms in disarray, some are whispering that it is time for House Bolton to regain their status, from the Age of Heroes, as the Red Kings of the North. Others, however, believe it would be foolish to attempt a rebellion against the Starks and urge you, instead, to pursue closer ties to them. Who will you listen to?

Petyr Baelish, Lord of the Fingers

Lord Baelish,

As Master of Coin, you are central to the ongoings in King's Landing. Although your efforts to aid the Dowager Queen in capturing Lord Stark failed, you did flush him out of the capital and secure, for now, the safety of King Joffrey. What will you do now? Will you be a loyal general for the new King? Or will you turn to one of the other claimants, perhaps the highest bidder?

You remain unmarried, a fact you are well aware of. With the Seven Kingdoms scrambling for order, your marriage could provide a great deal of sway to any interested party. Although you come from the smallest and least powerful of Houses, you have a grand vision for yourself. How will you achieve it?

Hoster Tully, Lord of Riverrun

Lord Hoster,

As your age advances ever further, your reasons to worry have not decreased. For the second time in your long life the Seven Kingdoms are being torn apart over the Iron Throne. While safe in the Riverlands some at your court urge you to remain loyal to the Iron Throne and King Joffrey, or at least remain neutral, while others are calling on you to raise your banners and send an army into King's Landing to bring down the Lannisters. What do you do?

Your daughter, Catelyn, has captured Tyrion Lannister as her prisoner for the alleged attempted murder of your grandson, Bran Stark. She has been rumored to be on her way to Riverrun with the Imp, hoping to use the Trident as a great prison for the half-man. If she turns up at your gates with the heir to the Lion of Casterly Rock in a bag, what will you do?

Doran Martell, Prince of Dorne

Prince Doran,

King's Landing is in turmoil after the death of King Robert and salatious claims about the paternity of King Joffrey. While there is little love lost between Sunspear and King's Landing, the state of things there will affect you greatly. Some of your advisors urge you to take a side and push for greater Dornish representation at court, while others promote neutrality, hoping to avoid angering any party. An even smaller contingent whisper of Dornish independence once again. Who will you listen to?

Your daughter and heir, Arianne, is of wedding and bedding age. Unlike other lords' daughters, however, she is not merely a tool to stengthen relations and secure friendships. She will, in due time, rule over Dorne as the ruling Princess of the Kingdom. Her spouse must be strong enough to be a worthy match but also docile enough to serve as her support consort, not attempting to upstage and displace her. How will you handle this matter?

Daenerys Targeryen, Khaleesi

Khaleesi,

You are now a wedded and bedded woman, married to the powerful Khal Drogo. While still struggling with a worldly language barrier, your new husband is entirely devoted to you - going as far as to kill your brother for his abuse of you. How will you use this new resource, your husband and his massive horde? The Khal, so far, has refuted your desire to cross the narrow sea and return to Westeros. Can you change his mind? Or will you change your goals?

As a wedding gift, you received three petrified dragon eggs. The last remnants of your great dragonrider ancestors. Many of your relatives have gone mad and died trying to make dragon eggs hatch. Will you give in to that primal desire? Or will you acknowledge what much of the world has - the time for dragons has gone by?

A Proclamation
To be distributed and read across the Iron Islands,
and sent to the Great Houses of Westeros

We Do Not Sow.

Those are the words of our proud House.

For the past Three Hundred years we have ruled over the Iron Islands and led the Ironborn into battle against powerful foes, we have sailed across the seas and the continents, and we have struck fear in the eyes of our enemies. With the usurper Robert Baratheon dead at last, we consider ourselves no longer bound by any oaths forced upon us by any man. No lord nor King from the green lands will ever lay claim to these islands as part of his realm, for we Ironborn rule ourselves.

We shall pay the Iron Price, and take what is ours. I, Balon Grejoy, hereby declare the Iron Islands independent and separate from the Seven Kingdoms, no longer bound to whoever sits in an Iron Chair. I take my crown like Urron Redhand did thousands of years ago, and become Balon Greyjoy, Ninth of His Name, Lord of the Iron Islands, the Greyjoy, Lord Reaper of Pyke, Son of the Sea Wind, and King of the Iron Islands. May no man or ruler who wishes to be spared from experiencing the wrath and the might of the Iron Fleet deny what is ours by right.

What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.

Signed,

Balon Greyjoy, King of the Iron Islands

Lord Tywin Lannister's proclamation for the Houses of the Westerlands:

I call all my bannermens to go to war to fight in the name of the one true King, my grandson Joffrey of House Baratheon against the usurpers and rebels who want to bring chaos to the Seven Kingdoms.

A Proclamation of Stannis Baratheon.

Hear these words and hear them true.

I saythat my brother Robert left no trueborn children of his marriage. The blonde children Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen are bastards, born of incest between Cersei Lannister and her brother Ser Jaime Lannister the Kingslayer. This is the truth that Lord Jon Arryn died for..

As my brother peft no true children, I, Stannis Baratheon, do this day lay claim to the titles of King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.

Let all true men declare their loyalty.

What are the proofs for that? It looks like someone wanting to usurp the throne more than anything else.

End of Turn One

War Over Iron Throne Starts Slow

What was expected to start with a great commotion actually started quite quietly. None of the claimants to the Iron Throne came to direct blows and the Seven Kingdoms below the Twins remained fairly calm. Lord Tywin, newly married to Joanna Swyft, forty years his junior, raised an army, joined it with the Army of the Crownlands, and marched on Bronzegate but did not launch an attack. The large army now stands within sight of the gates of Bronzegate, led by Lord Tywin himself. King Stannis, having a small force on an island, chose to pursue the Iron Throne through non-military means.

Iron Bank Backs Stannis

Dowager Queen Cersei, looking to secure her son's seat on the Iron Throne, sent Lord Baelish to Braavos to seek a new loan from the Iron Bank. Around the same time, however, a ship from Dragonstone arrived, carrying a large cache of Gold Dragons from Stannis as a downpayment towards the debts of the Iron Throne to the Iron Bank. With the payment of 250,000 Gold Dragons in Stannis' name, the keyholders wasted no time in sending Lord Baelish back across the Narrow Sea with a letter to Cersei and Joffrey - the Iron Bank will have its due.

Highgarden Declares for Joffrey

In a shocking turn of events, Lord Mace Tyrell and Highgarden declared for King Joffrey Baratheon. Maesters from across the Seven Kingdoms were sure that Lord Tyrell would have raised his banners for Renly, given the closeness between Ser Loras and the Lord of Storm's End. While Ser Loras has declared his disdain with his father and fled Highgarden, the alliance has been sealed with the marriage of Willas Tyrell, the heir of Highgarden, and Princess Mrycella Baratheon, 21 years his junior and too young to bed. With a joint Lannister-Royal Army stationed near his gates, Renly surely would have wanted to count on the support of the Tyrells to come to his aid.

Ironborn Cause Chaos in the North

In the most coordinated and wide-ranging campaign in recent memory, King Balon IX Greyjoy unleashed the terror of the Ironborn across the North. With a large monetary sum received as payment from the Lannisters and the Crown, Greyjoy focused his forces exclusively on the North to devastating success. The first success came when his disgraced brother, Euron, was captured and killed in Ironman's Bay. A force under Harras Harlaw sailed up the Saltspear and ravaged Barrowton, collecting great wealth and burning the port. Another force, led by Ralf Kenning, fought hard in the Neck and, although suffering some losses, slaughtered the Crannogmen and set fire to a large portion of the Neck. The only serious failure of the Ironborn campaign came when Asha Greyjoy attempted to capture Bear Island, only to hit a storm and lose half the fleet before retreating to Pyke.

Greyjoy's greatest success, however, came from an 8,000 strong force led by Victarion. After sailing down the Fever, a surprise attack was launched on Moat Cailin from the North, which was a complete success, with only a handful of Stark bannermen defending Moat Cailin. Leaving a garrison behind to secure Moat Cailin, Victarion led his force, by land and sea, to White Harbor. Under orders to be as fierce and unyielding as possible, the naval force ravaged the Fleet at White Harbor and sunk many merchant ships in the harbor. Lord Manderly, not expecting the Ironborn to travel by land, focused his response on the docks. This left him vulnerable when Victarion's land force arrived. After several hours of bloody, horrible battling, Lord Manderly was taken hostage by Victarion. Although he attempted to sail further North up the White Knife, the men were tired and demanded rest.

Stark Escapes Assassination, Barely

Lord Stark, while asserting his claim as regent, did not order any military maneuvers to either secure his claim or suppress the others. He did, however, attempt to summon the Small Council to decide the matter of succession. With Lord Baelish in Braavos, Lord Renly trapped in Storms End, and Ser Barristan Selmy, Grand Maester Pycelle, and Varys all in King's Landing, the Council was only made up of Lord Stark and Ser Davos Seaworth, representing Stannis. Their meeting in Riverrun was cut short when a band of Ironborn archers launched a surprise attack. Lord Stark was hit twice by their arrows, once in the thigh and again in the shoulder, but was quickly moved to an interior chamber and received medical care. Ravens say that he remains in critical condition. Ser Davos, however, was struck in the neck with an arrow and died a very painful death. During the Ironborn assassination attempt, Lord Stark’s key prisoner, Tyrion Lannister, was lost in the Riverlands.

((Since the only territorial change this round occurred in the North, I’ve only made a map of the North))

TURN TWO: 298 AC, Second Three Months

Player Prompts

Cersei Lannister, Dowager Queen, Regent

Queen Cersei,

Your use of your children’s marital status to secure your hold on the throne has worked well. Both Dorne and Highgarden, two potential kingmakers, have declared for you and are supporting King Joffrey. Now the question turns to yourself - will you take a new husband? As the most eligible bachelorette in the Seven Kingdoms, surely any singly lord would be glad to marry you. But can you find a man willing to be the spouse of the power behind the Iron Throne and not over shadow you?

Outside of Highgarden and Dorne, your attempts to secure Joffrey’s seat were less successful. Both Duskendale and Rosby rejected your advances, instead choosing an alliance of neutrality until more clarity can be found. With your army camped outside the gates of Bronzegate, you likely need to find more allies near the capital. How will you convince lords to support you and your son over the other claimants?

Stannis Baratheon, Claimant to the Iron Throne

King Stannis,

Congratulations on winning the support of the Iron Bank. Your initial loan payment has earned you a great deal of support and loyalty in Braavos. What will you do with this new valuable ally?

Your brother, Renly, has lost a potentially major ally in the Tyrells. He now sits in Storm’s End, an effective prisoner of the Lannisters as they block the Northern route out of the Stormlands. Some of your advisors urge you to send a force to relieve your brother’s position, potentially winning you the loyalty of your brother and his supporters. What will you do?

Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell

Lord Stark,

You are lucky to be alive. While you were attempting to hold a Small Council meeting, a group of Ironborn archers snuck up on you and Ser Davos and attacked. Ser Davos fell to their arrows immediately, while you took two arrows in non-lethal locations. There was a lot of blood lost and the Maester in Riverrun worries that the arrows may have been tipped with a poison. You are conscious, but it is a struggle.

The Ironborn cause great havoc and suffering across the North, not just to yourself. White Harbor and Barrowton have been sacked and Moat Cailin has been taken by Greyjoy’s men. You are now seperated from your seat in Winterfell and lines of communication may be difficult. To make matters worse, your key prisoner - Tyrion Lannister - escaped into the Riverlands.

Renly Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End

Lord Renly,

You have not yet publicly staked your claim to the Iron Throne and yet you sit in Storm’s End with a massive Lannister army nearly in sight. Your brother is now recognized by the Iron Bank of Braavos as the rightful king. Your only natural ally, the Tyrells of Highgarden, have declared for Joffrey. What do you do from here?

Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock

Lord Tywin,

You and your army are now outside the gates of Bronzegate, stopping Renly from fleeing his castle. While he hasn’t responded to your threats, Stannis has won the backing of the Iron Bank of Braavos. Some in your camp argue that you have focused your efforts on the wrong Baratheon brother. Will you change course?

Your son, Tyrion, was a prisoner of Lord Stark. Due to a sneak attack by the Ironborn he was able to escape from his captors but now is lost in the Riverlands. Will you pursue him?

Mace Tyrell, Lord of Highgarden

Lord Mace,

You’ve aligned yourself with the Lannisters, ensuring that the Reach and the Westerlands will not be at war. This has, however, sown discord within your family. Your son, Loras, is deeply upset by this alliance and has fled Highgarden, taking a small band of soldiers with him. He is speaking regularly and loudly against the Baratheon king and the Lannister alliance. Although he is your son, some of your bannerman has suggested putting a bounty on his head and silencing his dissent.

Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands

Lord Greyjoy,

Your campaign in the North has been a great success. You now control the Neck, thanks to a surprise attack on Moat Cailin, and have large hosts across the region. You’ve sacked Barrowton and White Harbor, burning ships and pillaging a deal of wealth. Your men, however, are trained in raiding and reaving, not conquering and holding. This became evident among Victarion’s host, who refused an order to advance down the White Knife past White Harbor. How will the Ironborn address these new challenges?

Roose Bolton, Lord of the Dreadfort

Lord Roose,

You’ve raised more men and secured your seat. Lord Stark’s life is on the line and the Ironborn are causing chaos across the North in his absence. You are the highest lord in the North now, with Lord Manderly a hostage of the Ironborn. You hold Lord Greyjoy's son with Robb Stark in the Dreadfot. What will you do?

Hoster Tully, Lord of Riverrun

Lord Hoster,

A surprise Ironborn assassination attempt near Riverrun has left your son-in-law on the edge of death. While the archer party was dispatched eventually, Stark blood has been spilled on your doorstep, as well as the life of Ser Davos Seaworth. With the successes that the Ironborn have had in the North, there is little doubt of the havoc they could cause in the Riverlands. What will you do to secure yourself and your realm?

The assassination attempt on Lord Stark has also caused another problem for you - his prisoner, Tyrion Lannister, escaped into the Riverland during the attack. As the Lord Paramount of the Trident, you know the lands the best. Will you focus on pursuing the prisoner or will you turn your attention to King’s Landing?

Doran Martell, Prince of Dorne

Prince Doran,

You’ve declared Dorne for Joffrey, sealed it with a betrothal, and assembled a force in Yronwood. What will you do with this force? Some urge you to keep them in Dorne as a protective barrier. Others urge you to send them North through the Prince’s Pass and play a role in the politics of the Iron Throne.

Your niece, Nymeria Sand, has traveled to Volantis to find support for you. While not a perfect success, she was able to secure a loan from the Bank of Volantis for 250,000. She has also approached two sellsword companies, the Second Sons and the Company of the Cat, but is awaiting further instructions from Sunspear before agreeing to a contract. Your attempt to reach out to your estranged wife was less successful - she refused to meet your messenger. What will be Dorne’s next move across the Narrow Sea?

Pronouncement of War

The treacherous Ironborn have invaded the North without cause or reason. Robb is to be Lord in my stead, and I trust the Lords Bolton, Umber, Karstark, Wull, and all to join him in defending the North from these invaders. To the more reasonable Ironborn, who have long sweated under Balon and his foolish rebellions, we will be reasonable after this war. But for now? The men born of ice and snow must destroy those born of Iron. Crush the slimy squids where they stand, and raise all your banners, my faithful Lords.

Long live the North!

To the Lords and Ladies of Westeros

Lord Tully, Lord Bolton, Lady Arryn, and many others have already raised their banners and joined me. Robert Baratheon, my dearest friend, named me Regent and Protector of the Realm. He instructed me to crown his heir, and I will do so when King’s Landing lets those of us loyal to his memory in.

I invite those who call themselves neutral, like the Lord Rosby and Lord Rykker of Duskendale, to recognize me as Regent and to raise your banners. Any man crowned King before I have approved and crowned him is a false King and has no claim to the Iron Throne.

I myself wield the authority of the Iron Throne in this interregnum and do therefore declare Lord Balon Greyjoy an outlaw, a traitor, and a rebel. I furthermore restore the title Warden of the East to Lord Robert Arryn. Long live the Seven Kingdoms, and death to the traitors to the Iron Throne!

This by proclamation of Regent Eddard Stark, Protector of the Realm, Warden of the North, Lord of Winterfell

End of Turn Two

Chaos in the Vale, Edmure Tully Taken Prisoner

As was the case with Aegon’s Conquest hundreds of years ago, it seemed set that the holder of the Eyrie would prove critical to the fate of Westeros in this war. Lady Lysa Arryn, widow of the late Hand Jon and regent of the Vale, had been under a near constant deluge of ravens asking for her to raise her banners. After a lengthy discussion with her brother-in-law, Lord Ned Stark, she was prepared to do so and declare for his cause, assured that her son, Robert, would be made Warden of the East and treated with the respect and honor she felt he deserved. Lady Arryn’s father, Lord Hoster Tully, paid a large sum of money to hold a tourney at the base of the Eyrie and invited all the great Lords and knights of the Vale. Edmure Tully’s speech at the feast, however, sparked outrage and confusion. He insulted his sister, calling her unstable and unable to rule over the Vale and even, in the eyes of some of the Valemen, suggested she would be aiding the Lannisters. Lord Yohn Royce, who had been named the commander of the Vale’s forces by Lady Arryn, took Edmure under arrest. Edmure’s loyal guardsmen attempted to fight back and free the heir to Riverrun but were outnumbered and dropped their weapons after a brief skirmish. When Lord Royce ascended to the Eyrie with Edmure in tow, Lady Arryn, insulted, hurt, and feeling betrayed by both Stark and Tully, flew into a fit of rage and had her brother thrown in to a sky cell and sent out a raven to the Great Houses - the armies of Lord Robert Arryn would not be marching into this fight.

Royal Forces Split, Focus on Bronzegate, Capture Rivermen in King’s Landing

Knowing of the difficulties in sieging the Stormlands, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister made the decision to return to King’s Landing with part of her force. Upon their return, a band of rivermen were caught attempting to set fire to the city. While the men claimed they were acting on their own will, many in the Court believe they were acting on orders from Riverrun.

The remaining force stayed at Bronzegate, with the Lannister host, and continued their siege. While they were unable to break the castle, the royalist army was able to destroy the small towns nearby that support Bronzegate and put a serious strain on the abilities of the castle to maintain itself. Their efforts were hampered, however, by a raiding party led by Lord Bryce Caron who continually probed, prodded, and generally annoyed the royalist army and won some relief for Bronzegate.

Stannis Hires Sellsword and Sellsails, Fights for Control of Narrow Sea

Lord Stannis Baratheon put the backing of the Iron Bank to work, hiring both a sellsword company and a sellsail company to support his claim. He hired 40 ships from Salladhor Saan in Lys as well as a 6,000-strong mercenary company from Tyrosh. Saan’s fleet moved quickly to secure the Narrow Sea before sailing West to hit the Arbor. Due to the massive size difference between Saan’s fleet and the Arbor Fleet, the Lysene Fleet was repelled after suffering several losses, but damage and disorder was achieved before Saan ordered a retreat.

Ironborn Retreat From North After Shock Successes But Leave Mark

The Ironborn have not ruled over the mainland of Westeros since Aegon’s Conquest broke the hold of the King of the Isles and Rivers, Harren Hoare, and Lord Balon Greyjoy did not attempt to return to that status. After their shockingly successful surprise attack on the North, the Ironborn retreated as quickly as they attacked. The retreating forces salted fields, burned villages, and plundered as much as they could as they left; these efforts were only partially successful - after the initial shock of the Ironborn attack wore off, the Northern Lords rallied their forces and responded. The Army of Winterfell, led by Robb Stark, Lord Rickard Karstark, and Lord Greatjon Umber, swept in and forced the Ironborn back to the sea. As the Northern Lords set their camp near White Harbor for the evening, thinking they had secured safety for the North, a raiding party led by Andrik the Unsmiling sprang a surprise attack and slaughtered the off-guard Northmen, killing Robb Stark, Lord Karstark, and Smalljon Umber. Although the remaining forces easily outnumbered and overpowered the Ironborn raiders, the damage was done.

An Ironborn success was found on Bear Island, where a second assault found success. The use of flaming arrows proved a great success for the Ironborn, destroying the wooden Mormont Keep and setting fire to the great forests that surround it. The Mormonts of Bear Island have been slaughtered and are now an extinct House, but the lands are also burning, leaving nothing but ruins in the wake of the Ironborn.

Dornish Attack as Renly Flees Stormlands, Rescued by Brother

With reports of the royalist forces at Bronzegate, Lord Renly Baratheon made a strategic choice to flee Storm’s End and move his host to Griffin’s Roost. Although Griffin’s Roost is a harder castle to defend, Renly had no plan to stay there. A fleet from Dragonstone arrived within days and spirited Renly and his men away, although their landing point is unclear.

As Renly was fleeing, the Dornish were arriving. Blackhaven was under attack for several days by raiding parties and small forces before a large host marched up the Boneway and smashed the defenses of Blackhaven. With only a small and tired garrison, the castellan opened the gates and bent the knee to the Dornish invaders, raising the crowned stag of House Baratheon over the walls.

Tully Forces Attack Westerlands, Reach

Despite the failure and embarrassment in the Vale, the men of the Silver Trout did see some successes on the battlefield. A force led by Lord Jonos Bracken conducted a series of raids and skirmishes in the Northern Westerlands, sacking Banefort and the Crag, while another force, led by Brynden Blackfish Tully, took similar steps in the Reach. The Blackfish’s men burned many villages and fought several smaller armies before coming to a stop near Bitterbridge. With Lord Mace Tyrell sitting firm in Highgarden, the local garrisons had little support or hope and struggled to put in a fight.

Declarations

For Joffrey:
House Buckwell of the Antlers
House Crakehall of Crakehall
House Dondarrion of Blackhaven
House Errol of Haystack Hill
House Rosby of Rosby
