Assuming Biden wins in 2020, how many supreme court nominations will he get and speculate as to who they will be.  I assume one of Ginsburg or Breyer will retire in the summer of 2021 and expect the other to follow suit in the summer of 2022.  I would not be surprised if they both left in 2021, but feel this is unlikely.  If Biden sticks to his pledge of nominating a black woman it seems his first pick will be either Ketanji Brown Jackson or Leondra Kruger.  Who will his second pick be?
I also assume that the nominee will not achieve the traditional 60 votes and will be in the 52-58 vote range assuming the democrats have roughly 50-55 seats.  Do you have any thoughts on how long a seat would remain open if the GOP keep the senate?

It only takes 50 votes (with Biden's VP as the tiebreaker) to nominate a SC justice now, due to McConnell dismantling the 60 vote threshold to end filibusters. Therefore, Biden could easily get through a nominee if democrats had a senate majority. As for who he would pick, Jackson seems like the best choice.

Jackson would probably be the best 1st pick. As for the 2nd pick, perhaps Srinivasan or Watford.

Four years ago, when he was on Obama's shortlist for Scalia's seat, I read that Sriniviasan has a strong commitment to the concept of being objective when deciding cases. If that's true - if he says that what he belives in and if the people who know him would confirm that's a trait of his - then I would be very impressed if Biden actually does appoint him.

Neal Katyal, Sri Srinivasan, Eric Posner, Gillian Lester, Lucy Koh, Leondra Kruger, and, if he wants to really shake it up, Bryan Stevenson.

Jackson (as a replacement for RBG or Breyer), because its time we had a female POC justice.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

I agree that Brown Jackson would be a good first SCOTUS pick for Biden.  She is already well-versed in federal law and has the overtly elite credentials (cum laude from Harvard Law School).

Sri Srinivasan, hopefully, because he's my friend's dad.

McConnell is moving swiftly to install ultra conservative nominees. I expect Breyer and Ginsburg to make an agreement and step down in summer of 2021 due to Covid 19 to give Biden two CRT nominees, since Kennedy made such agreement with Trump. No sense while Biden is President to serve in minority and die on CRT by 2028. Ginsberg wants to live out her life in Israel

Jackson will be his first pick.
Srinivasan will be his second.

This is my current guess as well.  Though Goodwin Liu is my dark horse pick for Breyer's seat.

My expectation is that Ginsburg retires next summer with Breyer the following year.

I'm guessing Kentaji Brown Jackson and Jacqueline Nguyen myself.

I also wouldn't be shocked if Roberts decided he had enough of a blatantly partisan court and also stepped down (maybe around 2024, once Republicans again control the Senate, so that a possible Republican President can appoint his successor.)

This would be some Grade A, dry-aged USDA Prime revenge porn for democrats and I'm here for it.

Dems are talking about changing the SCOTUS to an 11 judge panel again, since a Supermajority Senate is now possible. With that, they can get any progressive legislation passed and if there is no filibuster to stop Ds, then nothing will stand in their way to stop them.

Ginsberg whom was against such a move is finished anyways and will retire when Biden is sworn in. None of the other liberals have been outspoken against an 11 judge panel as Ginsberg was.

2022 Roberts: "I've had enough of this blatant partisanship but I can't leave just yet because I need to help protect the blatant partisanship."

I'll join the chorus of people suggesting Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sri Srinivasan. Would also offer Neal Katyal, Paul Watford, Robert Wilkins, Jane Kelly, and just for fun, maybe Barack Obama and Kamala Harris if Harris isn't VP. Doubt she'd be interested though.
