The Mechanic.

If you like the rest of Jason Statham's movies, you'll like this one, far more violent than the Transporter series but nowhere near as over the top as Crank (then again what is?) Ben Foster was excellent and is great at playing that type of character, which created kind of an odd dissonance but in a good way. It was like the character was written for an indie drama but somehow ended up in an action movie.

Scent of a Woman

Shameless Oscar bait. Spotty (at best) plot, but the acting was good enough to maintain my attention.

Half Nelson

Pretty good.  A nice old school 90s style indie movie in a 21st century world where indie = Hollywood scripts written by different group of nerds.

It's a shame Ryan Gosling's biggest box office film is The Notebook.  This guy has immense talent that not everybody knows about.

I agree with all of that. Have you seen The Believer?

No.  I'll be sure to add it to my Netflix queue.  Fracture, The Notebook (which was decent for the genre), and Blue Valentine are all I've seen, but I can definitely see a good actor in them.

I was worried with Fracture that he was going to flame out by teaming up with Anthony Hopkins like Ed Norton did (who most recently portrayed the brilliant Cop #1 in The Invention of Lying). But it turned it out pretty good.  He reminds me of Norton in a lot of ways.

The Rite (2011)

Anthony Hopkins' best performance since Silence of the Lambs.

I haven't actually seen any of those three movies. The Believer is amazing though. Lars and the Real Girl is another really good one of his.

I'll definitely be watching Blue Valentine very soon, one way or the other. Did you know he also has an indie band that is actually pretty good?

Yeah, I heard he sings (well, he sings in Blue Valentine).

I recommend it as well as Fracture.  At face value, Fracture is kinda just a dumb thriller that tries too hard to be unpredictable, but all the great performances create the suspension of disbelief necessary to make it really good.

The only Gosling movie I've seen is Lars and the Real Girl.

I will see Blue Valentine and Half Nelson sometime. I will never see The Notebook.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927)

Represents a certain type of cinema very well (Many would hold this to be the greatest silent film). However, whether that certain type of cinema corresponds to my type of cinema is dubious to say the least. Worth watching at the very least. Though I think I prefer Nosferatu due to my strange fondness of 19th Century German Romantic Kitsch.

The Room.

As entertaining and as crappy as ever.

If you haven't seen it, get your friends together and have a group viewing.

Synecdoche, New York

A brilliant movie, even if it's hard to follow at times.

Quiero movie recommendations!

I sort of saw Wendy & Lucy a few days ago.  But the interruptions I experienced made it unwatchable.

I had to kill some time at my theater... actually very well done for what it was though.

Technically doesn't count since I saw in cinema when it was released. Which was before it was put on the Index. Which I was rather shocked to discover. But I watched Ravenous last night. Twice in a row. It is that good.
Basically, I would not consider this a horror movie at all. It is an arthouse movie... with levels of gore more common of "hard" horror movies. And a subject matter not for the faint of heart. But that's not usually sufficient grounds for getting on the index... not by 1999.

Rainman

All right, but 80s movies...for some reason I tend to not feel too involved in movies from the 80s. Probably the worse decade in movies (although there are good ones, obviously)

Movies set in the 80s but not made in the 80s tend to be far better.

Speaking of 80s movies, my last film was....

Drugstore Cowboy

Some of the acting wasn't that great but it was pretty entertaining for the most part.
