Avatar. Story sucked, script sucked, etc but the visuals were good enough to make me accept it anyway.

Das Weisse Band by Michael Haneke, very good. He is excellent at creating an eerie, uncomfortable atmosphere.

This past Friday night, I watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase on the AMC Network.  I had forgotten how hilarious that movie is.  I can't believe its been 20 years since that movie was made (1989).

Taking Woodstock

Decent but a little boring and ultimately forgettable.

Actually, after letting this movie sit in my brain for a little while, I'm starting to like it a little better. The acid trip scene with Paul Dano was pretty cool.

Quite good and surprisingly surreal at times.

Burn!

Interesting movie despite being somewhat low budget and the problems with the movie mentioned in the wikipedia page above. Brando is always a great actor and the storyline is fairly appealing to me more than making up for those problems.

He's Just Not That Into You. There were way more stars in it than I expected, but it ended up just being kind of depressing. Jennifer Connelly is still as gorgeous as ever, but she plays a woman who gets cheated on by her husband with Scarlett Johansson(puke). Halfway through the film I realized she also played a woman who gets cheated on in Little Children; what kind of men would want to be with anyone else? Let alone Scarlett Johansson or Kate Winslet...

The BBC were kind enough to show Citizen Kane so, naturally, I watched it. Remains one of my favourite films.

Well, three never-before-seen movies in less than 24 hours. Although two of them were only half watched and on a tiny screen: Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets and Die Harder.

And just now I've seen Where the Wild Things Are on the big screen.

It. I can not believe that was actually shown on network TV in 1990! Can you imagine anything being shown on TV today that opens up with the brutal murder of a 5-year old girl, even if it's not actually shown? That'd be tough getting on cable or even an R-rated movie. And the scenes with the blood, wow. Network standards have clearly gotten stricter contrary to popular belief.

I had two big issues with it though:

1-The two scenes in the second half with the very inappropriate soul soundtracks. OK they might've been appropriate for those scenes but it felt very out of place.
2-The much hyped up finale scene was a bit of a letdown due to awful special effects. I know it was a network TV production almost 20 years ago, but come on, I've seen way better looking demons than that monster spider on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I also think it did a weak job explaining what exactly It was (apparently the book does a better job with this.) Still looking forward to the upcoming remake though.

What'd you think? I hope it wasn't dubbed, that strikes me as the type of movie where a lot of the meaning would be lost in translation, not to mention some of the excellent voice acting.

"Kicking and Screaming"
Haha, the second time was even better. Watched another movie for a bit today, with a great line. These two guys are talking, and in the distance, you see an old man on a walker. One of the men says "Hey, there's one of my hoes. Where do you think you're going? Get back in yo bed".
Ahaha...

No, it was dubbed.

Well dubbed, I think (without seeing the original, so take that with a grain of salt.) Bit funny seeing the original speakers' names in the credits, of course. Smiley

Yeah, I quite liked it.

A Serious Man

Not my most favourite Cohen but still good. Very funny at times but I'm not entirely sure of the message, which may be depressing, may be uplifting or may just be a modern version of Job (which is what I lean towards).

Sherlock Holmes - awesome.  Downey was great, like always, and the plot was entertaining.

(500) Days of Summer.

Should've been rated R, it would've allowed a lot of lines to be a lot funnier. Thought it was a pretty clever movie overall though.

An Education - Too predictable. It reminds me of that book which claims (I think?) that there are only seven common story-lines out there that get told over and over again.
