Moon

Fantastic. It's inspired me to finally watch Solaris (the Tarkovsky version) when I get a chance.

The Informant.

Less a classic "informant" movie (like All the Presidents' Men)

It's not like it was supposed to be one.

Thus my pithy comment.

My point is more than unless the marketing for it in Europe was WAY different than in the US, no one would've expected such a movie.

Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

Finally saw Kubrick's satirical masterpiece and was, like most who've seen it impressed. Peter Sellers and the quotes that were linked to each of his characters in my opinion made the film. His portrayal as Dr. Strangelove in the final moments of the film was most amusing. Highly recommended.

In Cinemas:

Saturday:

Fish Tank

Good, very well made (acting, directing, etc). Have to admit the story didn't really get to me. Maybe it's some kind of gender-narrowmindedness on my part.

Five Minutes of Heaven

Saw it without subtitles, which was bad because I couldn't understand a lot of the Northern Irish spoken in the film. The story started out as quite interesting but the characters were not really well developed and the ending was pretty unimpressive.

Sunday:

Up In The Air

Really good, very funny. Had its profound elements as well, I did have moisture in my eyes a couple of times. George Clooney was good and the girl who played the lead was even better. Also interesting for me since everyone at my university wants to be a management consultant.

An Education

Good. Female lead was gorgeous, though not in the creepy sexual way that Peter Saarsgard tries to get her to sleep with him, but more in a cute, daughter-way. I really felt with her. The depiction of lower middle-class England in the 60s was also interesting and touching. Didn't really perform its character-development as well as it should have though.

The Animatrix.

It was very sweet despite many of the stories not making much sense (especially the last one, what?) I'd place it between the original and Reloaded in quality. (FTR I do think Reloaded was a great film even if not up to par with the original, though Revolutions did indeed suck ass.)

Moon (2009)

An excellent directorial debut from Zowie Bowie, or more commonly known today as Duncan Jones. All aspects of the film were great, especially Sam Rockwell in what was essentially a one-man production. Such was further enhanced by the minimalist approach to the science fiction genre. Once again, Rocky highly recommends this film, in what he believes is one of the better films of 2009.

Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man", an acid western starring Johnny Depp.

Bizarrely fantastic.

The Meaning of Life

Damn, sometimes, these British....

Remains amusing but I preferred far more the Graal and Brian.

Zombieland.

It was a fun time, but I thought a lot of the humor was a little too obvious and easy to see coming. Also greatly Flanderized the type of character Jesse Eisenberg usually plays, although in a movie like this that's not exactly a bad thing.

Up In The Air

Very good movie.  I'm happy that they didn't go for the cliché, sappy ending.

*As a movie* it was OK.  Not great or terrible, but OK.  But the visuals brought it up to the level of "must see" (by which I mean as much the 3d effects as the CG).  And I say this as someone who normally wouldn't go out of his way to see a movie just for the spectacle, but they really raised the bar on this one.

And I will say that the action sequences are well staged.  Contrast that, with, say, Transformers (the first one....I haven't seen the sequel), where there were way too many closeup shots of robots that looked identical, and I couldn't tell what was going on.

the story seems incredibly cliched and predictable (have you seen the cracked.com video?), but it's James Cameron. I figure it'll be worth the $10 at midnight tomorrow.

Taking Woodstock

Decent but a little boring and ultimately forgettable.
