The covid-19 crises really brought out the worst of partisan American politics.

Do you think Trump would be tormented by the media if he had a D instead next to his name?

The Democrats wouldn't have made the mistake of nominating him.

In the middle of a crisis he fired the IG because he did his job during the Ukraine scandal so take all your complaints about how mean the media is to him and stick it. He deserves all the criticism he gets and then some

He would have flopped as a Democrat. But hypothetically if he were a Democratic President he would be getting lots of negative coverage too and would probably be more unpopular. Democrats hold their office holders to a higher standard than Republicans.

If he was anti-establishment in any way/shape/form, he would get lots of negative media coverage regardless of what letter he has next to his name.

This is correct.

Of course. And he would have been removed from office over Ukraine nearly unanimously, if not sooner.

The media would have bashed him for every little thing and Trump would have been removed from office already. If Obama has done a quarter of things Trump has done, people would be calling for lifetime imprisonment.

It would be the same, possibly worse.
And in my case, I would give him the same treatment.
I could care less if he was R or D, man or woman, white or black.
An a$$hole is an a$$hole.

Easily more so, because he would have been crucified by the right wing media and criticized by the mainstream media and probably even the left wing media. Barack Obama wasn't exactly exempt from criticism from either the mainstream media or the left wing media.

Negative media coverage? You mean the media that's been fawning over him and CNN with their "polls" that do nothing but average the most favorable polls for him or go around interviewing the most racist backward people they can find as the example of the people Dems need to go after and heaping praise on him about how he's become more presidential just because he managed to spit out a single coherent sentence once in awhile?

I think he might have have had a chance at being a Dem President in a world where the GOP somehow wins 2008.

Why is it anytime the media reports the *President's own words" it's just negative media narrative?

The President's actions as president and his actions prior to becoming president....if the media reports it and it looks bad, it's fake news.

I can admit to being loyal when I find a candidate I really like, and I understand that....but if any of the people I like did half the things Trump has done or said the things he's said, I would dump them.

Of course not.

A lot of people here giggles while comparing Trump's "rally the flag" effect with the leaders of European countries.

Well. Nate Silver says UK, Netherlands and Sweden pay the price for their dumb " laissez-faire, "herd immunity' approach".

Did the leaders pay the price? No. Per https://twitter.com/EuropeElects

Netherlands https://twitter.com/EuropeElects/status/1246421984004710403
Head of Government from 25-45% to 75% approval.

Sweden https://twitter.com/EuropeElects/status/1246419582098771968
Head of Government from 25% to 47%

They have no date for BoJo, but per Morninc Consult at 26th march.

Why did that happen. I think, because US has the worst click-bate media and ORANGE MAN BAD™ gives best ratings  Devil

They would be receiving worse coverage because lefty news never shills for Democratic Party incompetence.

Trump has FoxNews OANN and talk radio and alt-right internet sites.

If a Democratic president was failing like this Democrats and the media would be savaging that person.

If anything he'd be receiving more. Him becoming President as a Democrat would have been an even bigger accidental perfect storm than as a Republican. A large percentage of the Democratic Party would be disgusted with him ("grab 'em by the pussy" would still exist in this universe). No matter how much you alter his politics, Trump is still Trump. Furthermore, the Republican Party would hate him as much as they hated Obama since he is a Democrat in this hypothetical. And, you know what, they would actually be right.
