Let’s replace him with someone from the Bay Area in 2022.

Never. And we're taking the Governor's mansion back as well.

Is... is Gavin moving to L.A.?

Nah. But Beccera will get the job soon enough.

I mean, isn't the dude already in his 60s? And isn't Kounalakis the favorite to be Gavin's successor? I wouldn't be surprised if he took HHS so he could cap off his career being 'the Health Secretary who ended COVID.'

Maybe he won't, but I really don't think it'll be Kounalakis. She has zero statewide profile and zero accomplishments. People like Breed, Porter, Garcetti, Lieu, etc. would all start out ahead of her imo.

Eh, he's inoffensive.

But as a Newsom fan, I'll be really irritated if he doesn't pick a placeholder for one of AG or SoS or Possible Feinstein replacement or Replacement for possible Feinstein replacement.

It'd be really boring if 3 of the statewide races in 2022 will be won by coronated Newsom appointees.

It just doesn't sit well with me if 3-5 of the folks winning re-election in the next election or two are Newsom appointees.

As a Newsom hater, I agree. California deserves better than his particular band of loyalists. Although if he ends up elevating Breed, idgaf.

Newsom has followed in Biden’s footsteps with a perfectly fine, but incredibly underwhelming choice (nice to have a hispanic in the post however)

Well, Shirley Weber is kind of a placeholder in that she probably won't run in 2026. Seems like a "pick a black woman" + "keep Lorena Gonzalez out of power" move more than anything.

Rob Bonta, if those rumors are true, would absolutely not be a placeholder AG. Farthest possible thing from it.

Seems like Harris is waiting 'til the morning of the 20th to resign so that swearing-in her successor (& probably Ossoff & Warnock too) is her 1st action as VP:
