Hillary held her own in the debates against Trump. Trump got in a few memorable zingers but Hillary's numbers tended to go up after the debates. Trump's debate strategy is to try to intimidate, interrupt, and insult his opponent. Hillary was effective in appearing as a competent, fact-oriented leader. Biden struggled in a majority of the Dem debates. He has this habit now of starting a thought then cutting himself off and not finishing the sentence. Primary Dems might not have punished him but Trump will seize on any perceived weakness. If this was 2012 Biden going against Paul Ryan it'd be different. How do you see Biden faring against Trump?

I think he proved his ability to perform in a 1 v 1 last debate.

Did you watch his last debate? The one-on-one with Bernie? He was just as good as back in the day with Ryan/Palin. Biden may be awful when he's debating 11 other people on one stage, but debating one person is where he's a firebrand.

If you consider her simply not having fallen flat on her face a "win," then yeah, sure.

lol @ the idea that Palin won that debate.

I actually remember it keenly because I loved to hate on Palin back in the day.  I was working at this dingy little retail store and would go to the burger joint on my 15 minute break to read the local paper and get my daily dose of Palinsanity.  I was so hyped for her debate with Biden.  But the media threw a big wet blanket over it by spending the entire week ahead of time saying "Biden had sure better not do anything to alienate women or talk down to her."

Team Obama saw what was going on and told Biden "look, she's already a disaster, exposing her on the debate stage accomplishes nothing.  Just get through the debate without giving the media any excuse to paint you as boorish or mean.  We're already up 7 in the polls."  Biden did exactly that and McCain/Palin went on to lose in a landslide.

Nah, he can debate fine. He did well against Sanders, and it seems that he has been practicing his speaking. Even if he does slip up with some words, what matters is the points that he is getting across.

No, chicken little, Biden has always been fine in 1v1 debates and will likely continue to be.

Trump's alphabet soup is nothing for Biden to worry about.

There are plenty of things to worry about these days.  Biden in a debate against Trump is not one of them.  He will do fine--if Trump doesn't chicken out.

Really?  That's a matter of opinion.  Let's see where they are today.

Biden is the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party for president.  Palin is a washed up has been who is getting divorced after talking family values and selling her soul to the right wing media.  I don't mean to denigrate her.  She did that to herself.

Trump will weasel out of the debate.

No because debates really do not matter much, and are given way too much importance.

The talking point I hated the most was everyone saying their candidate would destroy Trump on the debate stage. Like unless Trump goes on stage and says his voters are idiots, and should not vote they will have no to little lasting impact.

Given the general pointlessness of debates...except for skipping 'em, no, not really. No one wins them, someone simply doesn't lose. The polarized electorate will declare their pick anyway.

He's repeatedly said he "loves the poorly educated" (so he's already done this) plus called the people of Iowa idiots so even that won't have any impact.

If Biden could turn the clock back just 5 years, he would be a very formidable debater.  But age-related decline has hit him much harder than Bernie, Bloomberg or Trump.  He may very well hold his own well, but the risk is non-zero.

Trump might be afraid of Biden but he isn't stupid enough to skip-the optics would be terrible, and he knows it.

Biden will bomb against Trump, but his backers will claim he won, just as Trump's people did last time.

And when he actually wins, will you still figure out a way to claim he somehow lost?

Nope, if Biden wins I'll give the old man credit that he managed to keep it together for more than five minutes. Would be a stunning sight.

People watch the debate to confirm their biases. It really doesn’t matter how he does.
