Nancy Pelosi turns 80 today. Steny Hoyer is also 80 and Jim Clyburn is 79. On the Senate side, Chuck Schumer is 69 and Dick Durbin is 75. They can't be around forever. Who is likely to succeed them as the Democratic leaders of the House and Senate?

House - Hakeem Jeffries or Katherine Clark

Senate - Durbin. I personally would like Mazie Hirono.

Yeah and Leader McConnell is old as well. No one is going anywhere especially since Dems are expected to gain the Senate and Durbin is still running for reelection.  Boehner retired and he was old as well.

I'd go with Jeffries if I had to pick one person, but I wouldn't rule out Schiff after his performance during the impeachment hearings.

Durbin is also a bit too old, and I don't see him getting the Democratic leader spot in his remaining time in office.

What about Tim Ryan? He made a play a couple years ago. Are we assuming he runs for Senate instead?

We're correctly assuming that Tim Ryan is irrelevant when it comes to predicting somebody who can actually win the support of a majority of their fellow House Democratic Caucus members.

House - Hakeen Jeffries
Senate - I'm less certain, but I could see Patty Murray as a dark horse option

I'm talking about people who are under 65. That means no Murray or Durbin, though Jeffries is an interesting one.

Why should Dems pick another another leader as you refuse to address what I said earlier that McConnell is old and is 84 and isnt retired.

House: Hakeem Jeffries
Senate: Hard to say. Durbin is likely to retire in 2026 and he will probably be replaced by Cheri Bustos. Schumer will remain the leader of Democrat caucus in the Senate until 2028. By then, most current senators, Democrats and Republicans will not be in the Senate

Leahy, Feinstein, Durbin, Murray, Wyden, Reed, Schumer, Carper, Cardin, Sanders, Manchin, Hirono, King, Warren, Markey probably will all be out of the Senate

Klobuchar/Harris/Cortez Masto will be Biden's VP. Two or three other Senators can be in Biden's Cabinet also. And 2-5 other Senators can lose their seat in a fight for reelection (Brown, Tester, Baldwin, Peters)

I really don't know who is going to replace Schumer and Durbin. Maybe Bob Casey as Leader and Maria Cantwell as Whip
