Why did Hegar and Bell have a strong performance in rural counties?

Why did Hegar and Bell have a strong performance in rural counties?
Bell likely won a lot of those areas due to name rec alone.... he was on the ballot 12 years ago, so a lot of older democrats likely remember him.

Why did Hegar do well in many rural counties in the middle of the state?

Possibly because she contested a seat in that area and her ID just expanded, she is a very formidable candidate.
Right, TX-31. West did well in DFW because he’s from that area. Why did he also win a few rural counties in the eastern part of the state?

Potentially the African-American population that is in east texas, as there is a large percentage in that region. That seems to easy to use but I think it is valid enough.
That sounds right. And why did John Cornyn lose San Saba County to Dwayne Stovall in the GOP primary?

John Cornyn, Dwayne Stovall

News websites made an error in the GOP primary, accidentally reporting that Cornyn got 95 votes in San Saba. He actually got 959. Cornyn won every county. What will the Denocratic runoff look like? Who will the primary losers endorse?

Bell already endorsed Royce. Considering the fact that Royce essentially only made it into the runoff by maxing out his vote in the Dallas area, while Hegar had far more general appeal, I would give her a significant edge. Not to mention the fact that most of the runner-ups were progressives, to whom Hegar has more appeal.

This is actually really fascinating just looking at how regional some support is. Thanks for making this!

Cornyn obviously has the advantage going into the general, but do you think Hegar can win?

No, but I think West can win.

He has actual political experience (he’s a state legislator). I think he would be an excellent to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Hegar doesn’t have the political experience. I believe political experience is important when running statewide.

But doesn't Hegar have the 2018 advantage?

I mean, let's face it.  Texas Dems were VERY spoiled with Beto.  He brought a special magic to a statewide race that I don't think any other Texas Dem would be able to replicate.

Since Hegar doesn’t have the political experience, what does she have?

I really have no clue how Mama Garcia won Webb
Webb is a majority-Hispanic county.
