I noticed that between 2002 and 2004, in New York the House Dems did much better in 2004 and the House Repubs did much worse in 2004.

Does anyone know why this is? Is it just because of Pataki and Kerry being at the top of the ticket respectively, or is N.Y. trending Democratic?

The NYS Republican party is an un-organized joke.  Though a combination of corruption, bad candidates and a lack of focus, the Republicans managed to lose their hold on strong bastions of power on Long Island and Upstate.

The GOP lost a seat in NY in both 2002 and 2004.
That's in addition to the Democrat and Republican eliminated by redistricting.
