Mike DeWine needs to be impeached (and obviously, arrested for defying a court order).

He has no authority to delay this election.  When people worry about "authoritarian measures" sweeping over this country - this is exactly what we're talking about.

He's wrong, by the way.  NOTHING is more important than free and fair elections.  What a disgusting tweet.

Elections are made for man, not man for elections.

It's not a fair election if circumstances suppress the vote of people who feel a need to be concerned about their own health or those of their families.

For a Governor to flat out to defy a court order is extremely wrong. I think this is a warm up to cancel elections in November.

This move isn't helpful. The timing of this primary is unfortunate, but trying to postpone it after the courts have denied the governor's request would only create more confusion.

As opposed to a warm up for people dying in hospital waiting rooms.

Hopefully we don't have a really bad natural disaster in November that compels Donald Trump to suspend the election!

We aren't stupid enough to buy into this caring act. Republicans under Trump are in a constant state of plotting. Defying a court order is a bold move that sets dangerous precedent.

No citation, but I've heard the Ohio health dept. is ordering the polls closed as a health emergency.

I've praised DeWine's handling of this so far, but this election situation is a big screwup. Regardless of whether you think the election should go ahead, to wait until literally the day before, and then to file a court lawsuit at the very last minute, is ridiculous. And yeah, the election should go ahead. This is about the rule of law- which we need to keep, or else the people fearmongering about chaos and breakdown of society will really be right.

He's done it.  Blatantly defying a court order.  This is what the virus hysteria is bringing to our country.  Elections are literally being illegally shut down now.

DeWine needs to be thrown in jail for this.

So apparently the primary date is still the same....but no polling places.....? So Are they JUST going to count the early vote? They said it doesn't defy the judges orders to keep the election for tomorrow

Originally, I approved of DeWine's handling of the pandemic, but this is just ridiculous. Public health is important, but so is the rule of law. He is openly defying a court order 11 hours before the polls are supposed to open. This is a dangerous precedent he is setting.

Lock him up.

Voting in Ohio starts in 9 hours and nobody knows if there will be an election. DeWine should've done this days ago, but instead he's thrown Ohio into a constitutional crisis by openly defying a court order... unfortunately, he'll be heralded as a hero by Republicans and Democrats despite his outrageous incompetence.

Yes, I think everyone would have been fine with a rescheduling if DeWine announced it as part of his actions taken on Saturday. Now Ohio is in chaos because he waited until the last minute and may or may not be possible to change trajectory.

I completely agree that DeWine needs to be impeached over this.  Cancelling an election the night before by fiat in direct defiance of a court order is unconstitutional and un-American.  Honestly, this is worse than anything Trump has done (although it may just be a preview of what he is going to try to pull in the future).  Preventing the destruction of our democracy is more important than preventing the virus.

Unfortunately, Americans from both parties have decided that they're perfectly fine throwing the rule of law & democracy out the window at the first sign of hardship.  I've never been so disturbed by my fellow countrymen.

The Secretary of State has issued a directive on new procedures.

In addition to all of the other problems caused by waiting until the day before the election, the Secretary of State has unilaterally imposed an unconstitutional three-and-a-half month voter registration deadline on the rescheduled election by directing boards of elections not to reopen registration. The Ohio Constitution says that "Every citizen...[who] has been registered to vote for thirty days...is entitled to vote at all elections."

The Democratic Party and the DNC should immediately suspend all elections, and cancel any election results from 3/17/20 until June 2020.

Push all of the DEM PRIMs back to June 2020, cancel all EVs, and make it a final June 2020 "Super JUNE PRIM" once all of this has passed a bit, plus give us a proper chance to have a Democratic Primary in what is essentially a State of Emergency....

I would not be opposed in principle to delaying an election for emergency purposes, especially if the terms of officials aren’t extended (not a concern in primaries). For that reason I don’t have much problem with the decisions in Georgia and Louisiana to delay primaries; the legal authorities in each state made the decision and all relevant laws were followed. As others have said, Gov. DeWine is flagrantly defying the laws and courts of Ohio, and he ought to be impeached for this. There is a clear difference between following/passing laws for a crisis and ignoring the law altogether.

How about a compromise where the polls are open tomorrow but then also have polls open in June for anyone who doesn't vote tomorrow?
