Not so long ago this district was a typical "conservative Democratic seat". That means that Democrats have no chances in it now..

Well, you can take Black percentage in a district, and that would be approximate percentage which Democratic candidates (together) can count on, In district like this 98% of Whites vote Republican and 98% of Blacks - Democratic.

Yeah. What is it about losing a governor bid that makes these guys not want to run again? I get Vitter because he pretty much disgraced himself but Abraham doesn't really have a reason to retire.

Maybe he simply doesn't want to be in the minority. Being in the minority in the House sucks.

Maybe he simply doesn't want to be in the minority. Being in the minority in the House sucks.

That's definitely why a lot of Republicans from safe districts are retiring, but I'm not so sure it's the case from Abraham. The fact that he ran for Governor last year makes me think he's not someone who wanted to stay in the House forever, and that he was ready to go back home after a few years.
