Who will replace Bernie Sanders as senator if he's elected prez this November? If I'm not mistaken, Gov. Scott, a moderate GOPer poised to win reelection, will appoint a placeholder for 90 days until a special election. Who will he appoint and who will run as Dem to take the seat? Dave Zuckerman? Peter Welsh?

Scott probably appoints former Republican Governor Jim Douglas, but he'd only be an interim Senator for the 90 or so days, as I really doubt he'd actually then run for a seat that he knows he'd get clobbered for.

As for who runs, I'd imagine that Welch would run for Bernie's Senate seat & that, upon his winning it, then Zuckerman (after likely having just been defeated by Scott for Governor) will run for Welch's seat.

Peter Welch, its March and we are already predicting a Zuckerman defeat, not so, Zuckerman and Volinsky want to increase minimum wage, just like in FL, where wages are 7.25 an hour.

I think Zuckerman could leapfrog Welch, but Zuckerman could be in line for a Cabinet post (USDA most likely) in a Sanders Admin.

I wouldn't be surprised, if Scott is reelected, to see him appoint Welch to the seat. I can see him promising to appoint a Dem/Progressive during the campaign to fill Sander's seat to appeal to Democrats. He could also appoint Douglas. If a Dem wins, then Zuckerman (provided he's not the governor), Tim Ashe, and Welch are all possible replacements.

I see him nominating a 90-day placeholder who is then replaced by Tim Ashe.

Is it possible that Bernie will resign his seat if and when he's nominated so a special election will be held in 2020?

I think it's something he would do, but I'm not sure if it's legally possible?

If you follow 278 EC map, Scott and Sununu will lose. You cant go by polls this early, due to 2018, Dems in Oct closed fast and almost won the Gov mansion,  both Scott and Sununu were both leading by this margin.

I think there is a wish for  Zuckerman can lose so he can be Senator, but minimum wage is making it's way in VT, NH and ME; consequently,, Peter Welch will be the next Senator from VT👍👍👍

Why not?  This is what Bob Dole did.

I think there's a decent chance that Zuckerman wins if Bernie's the nominee--even if he loses Sanders seems like the kind of candidate who get a massive home state boost.

Don't Democrats hold supermajorities in Vermont's legislature?  Couldn't they rush through a bill requiring the governor to appoint a replacement from the same party?

Also, what about Sue Minter?  It would be nice to see Sanders replaced by a woman.
