Dave’s Redistricting App died today. The 2016 election data has vanished from the website and has been replaced by useless composites of the 2012/2016 voting data.

Dude its under the pen, idk why the default is 2012 to 2016 comp but you can get the option for 2016 data.

He’s talking about visual election data color coded on the map by precinct, which cannot be changed. I agree with him, it’s useless AF.

Yup... I would think it’d be very easy to program an option to choose what election data you want to project into the map.

They'll presumably install 2020 election data ASAP after the election anyway, and that will be the most relevant for redistricting. Anything before then is just fuzzy

Being from a 2-CD state where redistricting hasn't been particularly partisan (it was a bit more so and threatened to be a lot more so in 2011), I've never really cared that much about PVIs.  For me, a bigger problem was with some of the building blocks.  Maine has had fairly useless census-designated "voting districts" in the past, and it looks like it will continue to in 10 of Maine's 16 counties (one voting district per county actually, which might actually be better than the convoluted "voting districts" of the past, and in the other 6 counties (York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, Kennebec and Waldo) they'll be really good (municipalities and wards for cities with multiple wards with separate polling places), but the other 10 counties having no smaller building blocks will likely drive people here nuts).

Block Groups which has also been an option on the app (although that may be without the PVI data) have been better in Maine, but you still have multiple small towns in one block group or the odd case of Lovell and Sweden in Oxford County with two block groups in those two towns, one consisting of about half of Lovell and the other consisting of the other half of Lovell and all of Sweden.

Yeah this 2012 to 2018 PVI just makes partisanship colors all but useless, its really bad in states where the downballot races are heavily skewed to one party(see Washington which had an unopposed AG election)

A lot of stuff there still works. But somehow I lost the ability to zoom in/zoom out of the map/precincts. (i.e. the plus/minus figure on the map page). Anyone know how to get this back?

Has anyone figured out how to get the "show map" feature to work on the new monochrome update? For me, it just shows the name of every visible city in a diagonal line that runs across the screen, not in their actual locations on the map.

Whatever they're currently doing, it's become incredibly buggy.   Whenever I switch districts the previous one will disappear and the new one won't fill in the precincts with the correct color.

The county and city lines are being finicky too.

DRA just added 2018 population data for a lot of states! Didn't announce it though so I'm not sure which ones but I noticed it while working on a map.

Do you know any specific states that have it?

So far every state I've tried! It's not fully integrated into the system as an option so you have to manually check each district and do the math to calculate district sizes which is a little annoying but it's awesome to have!

I saw it in every one that I checked - I updated my AL map over breakfast for instance.
