Yeah, GOP turnout would definitely be depressed. The tremendous backlash among conservatives would be such that many of them simply wouldn't vote for such a ticket. Sure, they liked his hawkishness & his having been a thorn in the side of the Democrats, but they were never gonna accept somebody who was pro-gun control, pro-gay rights, & pro-choice on abortion to the point that he voted against a partial-birth abortion ban as part of their ticket.

To put it simply, he'd blow things up. It'd be like if Obama picked some right-winger that only agreed with him on one thing.

As for its impact on the overall result, Obama wins MO & MT, & the Democrats pick up GA & perhaps KY in the Senate.
