Bush may not have any idea what is going on in detail, but he has the right instincts to be a Republican President.  He knows that people who get student loans are not his sort of person at all.

"The education budget was cut?" Bush responded. "Say it again. What was cut? At the federal level?"

Has that been a Daily Show Moment of Zen yet?

That's the largest nonanswer to a question that I've seen him give in a while.

So the student asked a loaded question that asserted as fact a falsehood (that education funding has been cut).  Bush, rather than answer the question, called the student on the lie and she was forced to "clarify".  This makes Bush stupid?

Bush burned Kerry in the 2004 debate in a similar way:

Blue Rectangle,

The Concord Monitor does raise some decent points.  I'm not familiar with this area, so I'm not sure if they are valid - can you (or anyone) address them?

She clarified that it was the student loan program that was cut.  How is that not cutting 'education', Blue Recta.?

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle has a more balanced story.

She clarified that it was the student loan program that was cut.  How is that not cutting 'education', Blue Recta.?

Two reasons:
1. Overall spending on education will increase in real terms, just as it always has.  (Too bad, federal education spending should be cut to zero.)
2. The "cut" to student loans is an increased cost to the lenders, who were pocketing the difference between the subsidized rate and the market rate.  Now the difference will be collected by the government and applied toward deficit reduction.

Don't like the changes to the federal loan system?  Blame Ted.

Total BS. This budget had 0 votes from Democrats, removes over $10 billion in non-inflation adjusted dollars, and raises the Stafford loan rate to 6.8% compared to the 2.8% it was when Bush was running for re-selection 2 years ago.  Typical lying Republican.

The bill contained many, many provisions.  Just because Ted liked one small part of it doesn't mean he would vote for the whole bill.

So what spending cuts would Democrats support?  So far, all I've heard from them is that we should raise taxes to reduce the deficit.

Give me proof that Ted Kennedy liked this part of the budget. He voted NO just like every other Democrat.

Democrats don't support screwing over the poor like this. We support cutting corporate subisidies and raising taxes on the rich.

Raising taxes is preferrable to spending cuts, obviously, Blue Rectangle.  Though I for one would happily support massive cuts in the warmaking budget.

My psychedelic marijuana-packed boxes have appointed that dumbsh**t president! Oh the joy! And the agony! The joyous agony! *puffs merrily*

Oh, sorry. I'm not taking out any loans right now, though my boxes might be.

Why? Is daddy paying for everything?

Um, the part you highlighted was where he asked about the education budget being cut.

Completely changing the question is not a 'clarification,' BTW.
