"I want to contrast what I consider to be an administration that is super-partisan and not really able to deliver results with a different model, a better way, which is what we've been doing in Virginia and other states,'' Kaine said, previewing his speech tonight in an interview with the Associated Press.

"Results matter. Planning matters. Management matters, and you can make much more progress if you do it in a bipartisan way,'' he said.
...

"I think it's all about talking to people about the issues that really matter to them, which is what successful governors tend to do. They became successful in campaigns because they talk about real basic things and don't get off on insider issues and purely social causes -- the strength of the economy, the power of education, health care needs and health care solutions,'' Kaine said.
...

"Tim Kaine is a wonderful fresh face who speaks from the heart about his values,'' said Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean.

They quoted Kaine on the radio of him saying "I don't know why I was selected, but I'm honored" (or something to that effect).

Kaine was horrible, by the way.  The speech looked good on paper, but he did an absolutely horrible job of delvering it.

Should have went with the guy in my sig.

I think Kaine did ok for his first national address.  It was a repetative response though, and one that kinda lacked in substance.

As far as oratorical skill goes, Barack Obama, Brian Schweitzer, or Mark Warner should have been chosen instead to give the Democratic rebuttal.  No offense against Kaine (and I am glad he is my governor rather than Kilgore), but he would have  been better off if he had not been chosen -it is way too soon to give him national prominence when he has barely begun his term in office and he hasn't yet proved himself.

I thought he did a fine job. Kaine was a good choice.

It was great substance, and Kaine mucked it up with that terrible cadence.  Almost as bad as Liddy Dole's cadence.

Would rather have seen someone long the lines of Obama or even Warner do it.  Probably would have done better, however I think Kaine did an overall good job, and did more to reach out to those in the middle than Bush did

We might as well close the thread after this response.  Summed it up perfectly.

I did.  Couldn't tell if that was a shadow or if he had a tuff of hair sticking out.  I wanted to take a razor to it though.  hehee

I gather that Kaine didn't exactly deliver with gusto

I listened earlier...it was pretty good, but he did seem to stammer a bit.  The content was great though.  They ought to distribute paper copies.
