Probably Obama, but not because he lacks the talent to be a great senator.  Its the fact that he's being rushed to greatness by the media rather than earning it himself.

Yeah, I was going to say Obama too.

I expect many will say McCain, but I heartily disagree with that.

A problem with the "overrated" question is, how many are actually rated very well on a national scale?  Besides the two mentioned above?

McCain by far.

Obama is a good choice as well.

As for underrated, Jack Reed definitely takes the cake.

That would be Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). He's not so much overrated as he is overpublicized. I can't seem to read anything without him being mentioned. Harry Reid would be a close second as far as being overpublicized, but he is Minority Leader, so it makes more sense.

Hey, welcome to the forum Soaring Eagle.  I'd replace Lindsey Graham with McCain since your description seems to fit him perfectly.  Graham seems like a genuninely decent human being.

Easily Obama.  He won't be running for president anytime soon.

I have to agree with the others who said Obama.  Just another liberal media darling.

It hardly matters.  Black people can't be elected president in the US.

I would say Lincoln Chafee - he is held up as an example of an enlightened Republican and yet 1) he votes with the Religious Party more often than not, and 2) he hasn't switched parties.  Therefore he is really no better than one of those nuts from Oklahoma or Kentucky.

Olympia Snowe is occasionally mentioned as potential presidential material, and is often considered another Liberal Republican, and is clearly neither. Therefore she gets my vote.

Yes, he does. But as with all overrated politicians, it is the media which truly makes politicians overrated. I think that the media absolutely loves McCain and Obama. One is a war hero who isn't afraid to disagree with his party sometimes. The other is a young, energetic senator who won his first term in a landslide. The media obviously loves stuff like that and makes many people sick of politicians who seem like decent folks.

You have 100 to choose from and you select Feingold. You really do have your head stuck up the republican parties bottom. Your parents and church and brainwashed you well. *Ban evolution*

Most overrated is George Allen. What has he done?

Fair comment Smiley. Obama is overrated but only to the extent that he's been hyped-up. One day, he'll be highly rated on his own merits
