No, simply because you cannot force it into the post-secondary environments since at that point, they are no longer minors.

No, especially not at colleges and universities. As far as high schools and below, it would depend on the particular school - there's certainly cases for it at some schools, but for others it's unnecessary. A reasonable dress code is sufficient for most schools.

I think the better question to ask is why are you biking half an hour to school?

Actually, The concept of the uniform would me more of pop culture here than anything else. I mean, look at Japan, and the fetish for schoolgirls.

Schools should decide if they want uniforms.  In elementary school, we decided if we wanted uniforms by voting.

I think you folks overestimate the effect "fashion" has on things.

Most people don't care what you are wearing.  T-shirts are cheap, and no one makes fun of someone for having a cheap t-shirt.  As long as you're clothes aren't raggy, then it's usually not an issue.  Then again, raggy clothes can be considered cool.

School Uniforms are detrimental to the creativity and individuality of a student. I would glady walk through the Towering Inferno in a GASOLINE SUIT to prevent them!

That is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard.  Maybe the world would be a better place if people who claim to have such a commitment to their beliefs as you claim to actually did something for a positive cause, or at least one that matters.  To be willing to effective commit suicide over school uniforms is pretty pathetic.

I doubt you're serious in any case, but the thought is just ridiculous.  This is an example of why so many people find it hard to take liberals seriously.

Although I admit that seeing university students in Mr Leitch's Hogwarts-type uniforms would be charming in a way, uniforms would be too impractical at public universities. The student demographic is too fluid, between transfers, dropouts, returning adults, etc.

At A&M, there is a 3000-member Corps of Cadets, in addition to a vigorous ROTC, so seeing college kids in (military) uniforms is nothing special for me.

No but large districts should have the option of creating uniformed schools.

If you can't find some other way of expressing "creativity" than your clothes, you have serious problems. I mean, who wakes up every morning and thinks about which shirt and jeans would best express their individuality. I'm more concerned with how many days the jeans have been worn for and what shirts are in my closet.

Yeah, kids dress so creatively when they all wear the exact same style and fashion.

Uniforms would keep them from ever having to look back when they are thirty and saying, "What the hell was I thinking when I wore that?!"

I don't care, it doesn't really matter to me what I wear to school. It should be up to the schools anyway.

Same.

I teach in a low SES school.

And BRTD is right, they really wear about 5 or 6 different outfits.  But the point stands (and is a play on a semi-famous quote.)

Guys style:
-Jeans/Khakis with a polo/shirt (Prep)
-Some sort of skater ensemble with jeans and a hoodie/t-shirt (Skater)
-Hoodie and jeans/sweatpants (Poor)
-Polo/t-shirt/sweater and jeans (Normal)
-Wierd mix of various items, usually black (Goth)
-Wierd mix of various items (Punk)

That's not a very wide variation. I know I've seen a good number of t-shirts multiple times in a day, usually ones of bands or skate companies, occasionally a polo.

Hell no! uniforms are terrible. They have no upside and cause a loss of individuality.

I agree completely

No, I have a couple pairs, but jeans make up about 90% of the pants category from what I've seen.
