Rasmussen: CT Sen. Lieberman (D) 47%, Weicker (I) 25%, Generic Republican 16%

Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman appears to be safe for re-election, despite attacks by the party's liberal base.  In the latest poll he wins 47% of the vote, compared to 25% for Lowell Weicker, the incumbent Republican he defeated in 1988 now an Independant.  A generic Republican candidate in this poll received 16% of the vote.  Lieberman is viewed favourably by 71% of the state's voters, Weicker, who served as Governor from 1991 to 1995 is viewed favourably by 44%.

An earlier poll which matched Lieberman versus Weicker found the former with 54% to the latter's 32%, an indentical 22% lead seen here with support for both reduced.  This survey indicates that 33% of Republicans would support Lieberman.
