CA governors and senators have won reelection with worse approval ratings than 45%, e.g. Pete Wilson in 1994, Barbara Boxer in 1998, Davis in 2002. I won't even go back to the days before Deukmaijian.

Even 45% is still a terrible figure for an incumbent facing re-election.  I realize that sounds like liberal spin, but I'm jus' sayin' is all....

That's not spin, it's the truth. That goes for an incumbent of either party  (I'm thinking Blagojevich here).
