This is news?

Oh, you mean he's admitted to it?

So this makes it official that a homosexual*used homophobia to get elected (as Hughes admitted the other day to his role in the homophobic campaign against Tatchell).

*Hughes appears to be claiming that he's bisexual but... well... the last woman he was seen with is reputed to be his show-girlfriend from the Bermondsey by-election...

Hmm... this should really be followed up with a joke of some kind... three Liberals on a bar-stool? Nah... too Jeremy Thorpe and never really very funny... ah yes... this is a funny joke, old but still funny...

"Vote Simon Hughes; the STRAIGHT choice for Bermondsey!"

Yes, and that's the most hypocritical thing about it Sad. Peter Tatchell - the openly gay Labour candidate was lampooned for his homosexuality and the Liberals - as well as others - fought a nasty homophobic campaign during the Bermondsey by-election of 1983. And it's taken until now for Hughes to apologise.

That said it is unlikely I'd have supported Tatchell - but that would have been a question of his leftist positions being out of step with my more slightly left-of-centre leanings

Nevertheless, the voters of Bermondsey were deceived back then by Hughes and others. Despicable Sad, though it would not have been, however, had Tatchell's sexuality not been an issue in the by-election

Of course, Hughes - unlike Oaten -  hasn't deceived a wife and kids. I suspect his admission came just as he was about to be outed

Hughes' sexuality is no concern of mine, it's the hypocrisy Sad of what happened back in 1983, I take issue with

Gives a whole new meaning to that 1983 Tory flyer, "Which queen do you support?" Grin
