In order for this to happen in the first place Donald Trump would have needed to create a very different persona than the one he has now, starting back in 2009. No involvement in birtherism,  support for gun control and universal health care as a main issues instead of immigration restrictions etc.

If he had done this, Bernie might just as well have become his VP.

Nobody. No Democrat would support him after the “Access Hollywood” tape.

Access Hollywood made me support him more. Every married woman I know didn't give a sh**t about Access Hollywood.

How would he be elected as a Democrat when he's so far to the right? Huh

Like what if Bernie Sanders was a Republican, would he be running for President? Gosh, I don't, we'd be talking about a totally different person.

Totally agree, up until Bernie Sanders. If we're gonna parallel 2016, Trump will pick someone who

1. Has strong executive credibility and experience
2. Is willing to toe the line and defend Trump
3. Has political ambitions of his own
4. Has strong progressive credentials

There's no one who really fits the bill. Andrew Cuomo would have been a good choice if Trump weren't from New York.

No sane Democrat would have run with him. Aside from issue positions his overall record of poor behavior is far too negative for any Democrat to overlook.

You could envision Trump morphing into a left-populist demagogue. He would have had to "come to a new understanding" about race relations, but he's a chameleon. He could just become a regular on Oprah.

Look at Trump's views in Bush's 2nd term, they were super anti-Bush and pretty left-wing and pretty ridiculously so as well. Then when Obama became President he became ridiculously anti-Obama and the reason for both is because Trump in his entire life loved to make himself look controversial as that increased his publicity.

The 2011 Correspondents dinner though is when it changed from him just wanting to act controversial as his oversized ego was hurt at that dinner and he basically after that he actually started hating Obama personally and wanted to do everything he could do to take revenge and thats why he ran for President so he could get back at Obama for that night and wipe out his legacy.

Which is exactly why when he took office instead of trying to use political capital to build the wall and do an infrastructure deal he used it to try to repeal Obamacare because he was more interested in wiping out Obama's legacy then following through on his promises.

Either Claire McCaskill or a re-elected Kay Hagan [because that's how alien the idea is from 2009-on]. His skeptical audience to pick up would be women rather than evangelicals, and he'd still want some kind of fight. McCaskill was proven to have that fight in her...and Hagan would've played the Mike Pence game of stealing a region he had no right to gain at face value.
