Let’s say a genie came and would grant you one wish to overturn either the Governor or Senate race in Florida in 2018. Who would you rather save?

Nelson without a shadow of a doubt

1. Rn, senate>governorship
2. Rick Scott is easily top 3 worst GOP senators

Gillum.  Having him there to veto Republican redistricting plans could be worth five House seats.

Although I am far closer to Gillum's politics, the Senate seat is more important, so Nelson.

As a Florida resident, Gillum by far. I recognize the importance of the senate in federal politics, but DeSantis is a madman.

Gillum. I agree more with Nelson politically, but for the future of the party, Gillum would've been a great rising star had he won.

Nelson as Republicans still control the Senate without Scott and DeSantis has been the best Florida governor since Jeb Bush , and is a rising star in the Republican party and I think if Trump loses in 2020 he will be most likely the next Republican to be elected President(either in 2024 or 2028) and if elected would be an excellent President as well

Nelson. Gillum is an empty left-wing suit.

Nelson, for the nationwide impact. If he won, Democrats would probably have another vote in their camp for impeachment, and would be much closer to taking the Senate in 2020. If Trump wins and the Senate stays Republican, his presence will be especially critical for keeping Orange Man in check. A Gillum win really only has certain impact in Florida, and he would have been at risk in 2022 anyway.

Gillum, just because Ron DeSantis fans on Atlas who are already parading him as the next GOP leader are annoying as hell.

Nelson, due to 2020 chances to win back the senate. This was such an unecessary loss that may cost Dems the senate this year. Gov. DeSantis is also less bad than Sen. Scott.

I would rather have the choice of saving Corey Stewart or Kris Kobach.

Ah, the white nationalism is strong with this one.

Nelson. Him having won would greatly improve Dem chances in the 2020 senate elections.

It could be argued that the governorship of a large state is more important than a single Senate seat, as long that Senate seat doesn't determine the chamber's control.

It could be argued that the governorship of a large state is more important than a single Senate seat, as long that Senate seat doesn't determine the chamber's control.

I think that view is correct, especially in a cycle where the new governor got to immediately fill 3 of the 7 seats on the state's supreme court through a nearly unilateral process.

Of course, Florida has NC rules for legislative redistricting, so an opposite party can only veto the congressional map.  But the FL legislative maps immediately go to the state supreme court for review, so see the first sentence.

Nelson is in his late 70s, effectively a relic of the old Southern Democratic coalition who was able to hang on a little longer thanks to the unique nature of his state. Even if he won, you're not getting much out of his term.

Gillum just turned 40 — having him in office would be a tremendous boon to the party for the next several years, both because of redistricting & judicial appointments and because he is a recognizable figurehead who could lead the party back to relevance.

Nelson, on principle.

Gillum would likely have been an extremely unpopular Governor who would have been defeated for re-election.  DeSantis is nowhere near as bad as Scott was (although I'm not singing his praises for 2024).
