Congressman Bobby Jindal (R-LA CD-1) who lost to Kathleen Blanco for Governor of Louisiana in 2003 will run against Blanco in 2007. No word on whether or not Jindal will still seek re-election for his congressional seek this year.

Good. I'd much rather hold on to Landrieu's Senate seat.

By the way, I definitely think Jindal will win that race.

yeah.  This actually makes me worry a lot more for 08.  Unless he decides to promptly run for Senate (bad move).

Channel 6 (WDSU for the non-LA people) during the 6:00 News. Haven't found it on their website yet (which is difficult to navigate).

Agreed. I would also vote for him in Governor as I probably would have in 2003.

Jindal's taking the easy, near-100% guaranteed job as opposed to the about 60-70% guarantee (but better) job.

If Breaux follows through on the recent chatter and runs for Governor then no one will stop him not Jindal and definatley not Blanco!

That said he probably wont run Sad and Jindal will win if its him vs Blanco and by a wide margin.

Yeah, but the essential dissapearance of New Orleans from the LA body politik will make it impossible for basically any Democrat to win.

*cough* John Breaux *cough*

Then again he would really be the "Breaux Party" more than anything else and thats why he'd win... Mitch Landrieu might also have a shot, Blanco's a "political dead man walking" as it is, do the Democrats want to even try and hang on the Gov post or concentrate on defending Landrieu as Lt.G and his sister in 08?

It's a bad career move, unless he wants to be President.

How we have come full circle!

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=52.0

I supported Blanco back then, but would easily vote Jindal in a 2 way race this time around.  Of course another Democrat is likely to run in the 1st round, os I'd vote for him/her.

Why doesn't Blanco just resign?  Its the honourable, principled thing to do; she may not be responsible for what happened, but it happened on her watch and in politics its a rule of law that you are blamed for events like this regardless.  If she resigned then we could have a Connecticut situation in which the replacement is so popular after the incumbent that they win.  I could see this happening with Mitch Landrieu ala Jodie Rell.  Although Louisianans might not tolerate having a Landrieu as their Senator and another one their Governor.

Blanco won outside of New Orleans... not that she will again, mind you.

Did'nt Mayor Nagin endorse jindal last time around?

Yes he did, with the result that Jindal won some 32% of the Orleans Parish vote, as compared to the 27% for Mike Foster (R incumb.) in the 1999 election. Still, Jindal wasn't killed in Orleans -- it was Cajun country and northeast LA that did him in.

Quite frankly, I think that if Jindal does run again, he will lose again. New Orleans may have been obliterated, but remember that half of that city's population still resides in Louisiana, primarily E Baton Rouge Parish.

Furthermore, the same bigo ... I mean, north LA rural voters ... will vote in this election as they had the last. For them the dynamics of the 2007 election will not be that far from the 2003 election. The north LA economy is still depressed, so young people with any kind of self-motivation still move out after their 16th birthday; hurricanes Katrina, and to some extent, Rita, have not physically devestated the north as it had Orleans and the prairies; most importantly, Blanco, as her name implies, is still very white, while Jindal, to say the least, isn't.

If Blanco (wisely) decides not to run for reelection, and the Democrats pick a safe white man, say Lt Gov. Mitch Landrieu, then they will nearly automatically win a rematch against Jindal.

Interesting scenario. Lousiana is the only state where nobody knows how the election is going to turn out. I kinda like jindal, even if I dont agree with him most of the time. It is kinda refreshing to see someone not dirtied by lousiana politics and corruption.

My early prediction. (Based on nothing but pure gut)

(D) Governor Blanco 45%
(R) U.S Rep. Jindal    55%

(D) Lt. Governor Landrieu 51%
(R) U.S Rep. Jindal             49%

Democrats need to find a stop Jindal candidate. Blanco's toast. I hope she does not seek re-election

The Democrat who stood the best chance of beating Jindal in the governor's race, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, has instead set his sights against Nagin as the next mayor of New Orleans

Handing New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin perhaps his most formidable political challenge to date, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu has decided to place his name on the April ballot, a key Landrieu supporter said Monday.
Landrieu could not be reached for comment.

But an ally who requested anonymity said Landrieu informed key supporters across the city and state during the weekend of his intention to run for mayor.

Another potential candidate, Audubon Institute Chief Executive Ron Forman, said Landrieu told him the same thing Monday.

While Landrieu is expected to publicly announce his candidacy in a written statement this week, a source said a formal declaration with a kickoff event and a campaign speech likely won't come until after the Legislature's special session set for Feb. 6-17.

The mayoral primary has been scheduled for April 22, with a runoff, if needed, on May 20. Qualifying for the race will be March 1-3.

I still think that the governor's race can be won by an acceptable white Democrat (including Blanco, if she race baits hard enough) if Jindal really does decide to run. OTOH, if the LA GOP backs a white Republican, a Vitter-clone say, then the Democrats are utterly finished.
