This is a drastic escalation. The US is plainly assassinating top Iranian military leaders in a capital city. This could definitely count as a declaration of war.
Will Benedict Donald's Russian owners benefit?
If you knew anything about geopolitics, you'd know that the answer is a clear no. Iran has been crucial for Assad's survival.

That overlooks the rising oil prices, another potential European refugee crisis, along with possible political destabilization and rising isolationist sentiment in the United States.

MSM commentators already calling this a war.

Iran National Security Council holding a meeting.

Karl Rove and the spinners already calling it an effort for democracy on Fox.

Looks like I'll be here for the 2nd time Atlas goes through a NeoCon war!

This isn't some minor bombing the media kills off after half an hour.
This is looking like something different.

Agree. This could "blow-up" to something big.
What if Iran begins to target American flagged oil tankers or our warships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz?

I mean, we basically assassinated another country's high-ranking military leader, on the soil of another nation (Iraq). And we used military equipment to do this. What the hell is that?

You guys r so sensationalist. "War" lmao Iran won't go to war, they can barely contain their domestic unrest as it is and their economy is in shambles. They can't do sh**t and they know it, war would be suicide for the Iran regime.

Basically the US can do whatever it wants to stop Iran from dragging the rest of the middle east into their sphere of influence and Iran can't do anything about it.

So like the War with Iraq and the Vietnam War? Because the way you described this also fits those ones perfectly as well.

Good thing no one did something that would cause the Iranian people to rally around their leadership. Like, say, killing a popular general in a treacherous attack on friendly soil.

They can't do sh**t and they know it, war would be suicide for the Iran regime.

But not for America! Because we totally don't have an unpopular regime and a military worn out from two decades of war that is extended across the globe!

Basically the US can do whatever it wants to stop Iran from dragging the rest of the middle east into their sphere of influence and Iran can't do anything about it.

You should make sure that someone remembers to tell the Iranians that.

Right. Because this - unlike everything else Trump touches - is totally going to go well for the ten months.

This may have been sold to Trump as a wag the dog ploy, but this is really just his Russian owners using the failing Benedict Donald to drive one more dagger into the United States.l

Damn....how are Trump supporters gonna pretend to hate Bush era neocon-ism now?

The Paleocons were always deluding themselves and seeing what they wanted to see. Trump went on his YouTube channel in 2011 unprompted (this was not any kind of interview) and made a video demanding we send ground troops to Libya. He approved of Iraq in 2002 and only disapproved afterwards because we didn't "seize the oil". He is a classic neocon imperialist.

Wait....are you claiming that Trump is some kind....some kind of of a con man?!?
Outrageous! What’s next? Saying his supporters engage in bad faith when discussing the Bush administration?

Bush bad man unless Trump do what Bush did then he guud independent outsider man

I have absolutely zero faith in the White House being able to successfully deescalate this situation, and that’s assuming they even want to deescalate it. For all of the joking about relations with North Korea, I never really felt like the stakes were all that high. This, though, feels much more ominous to me. I’ve kinda never been more apprehensive about having someone so reckless running the show (both for the sake of American interests and for the sake of the innocent people in the Middle East who will, once again, only endure greater suffering if this gets worse).

Bernie bows to Iran aggression to... save money? The cost of war (and freedom) is high, but so is the cost of cucking out to anti-American terrorists.

I agree with Bernie that we shouldn't start s__t, but America didn't start this.

George W. Bush going into Iraq only didn't harm his re-election because you still had 9/11 in very recent memory and everyone was concerned about national security (security moms helped Bush get re-elected). At this particular time most people don't feel that sort of intense concern and Trump is viewed as unstable. I can't see this improving his re-election chances.

I do expect this to be a blessing in disguise to geopolitical opponents of the US, now they are incredibly stretched thin to properly respond.

Wow, this came out of nowhere.

This is essentially a declaration of war. What a pointlessly reckless move by this administration.
I'm morbidly curious to see how this sh*tshow spirals out of control.
