I believe we are supposed to be voting on whether or not to table.

My reading of the federal law on this subject is that you can currently get a 5 year sentence for escaping; I'd be open to reducing this with very specific circumstances & tight rules- along with trying to fix the issues that other people identified.

Rather than tabling this I'm happy to amend & then move to a final vote where people can vote it down (and requires less votes to fail then it does to table iirc)

I think this would be reasonable.

The tabling motion has not been seconded yet I believe so no vote on that. I would personally prefer to see an amendment first anyway.

It was seconded by RC, but I agree with you that we should wait for the amendment.

My interpretation of what RC said after reading it and asking him is that he said he might second the tabling motion in the future but isn't doing so rn (due to the possibility of an amendment)

I won’t object, but I don’t know if it’s far away enough from the original bill to be acceptable.

3 years is, I think, a reasonable punishment for escaping and will vote for the bill in this form.

Well, after a quick research, I looked into this and it seems that the current penalty for federal prison escapes is 5 years, and can be shorter under certain circumstances (I think crimes made by minors?)

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/751

I think the exception in current laws is a rather narrow one that can be scrapped (plus I guess it doesn't affect current prisoners? I have absolutely no idea how the US / Atlasia work on this kind of stuff), so I will still vote for this even if it is not a great bill by now.

Honestly should have objected while I still had time.

Aye (recluctantly)
