I probably like Christmas Eve a tad more, but I’m an adamant believer in opening presents on Christmas Day.

Christmas Eve is when I used to have family over, but in the past few years I've been hanging out with my Jewish friends on Christmas Day after I get Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, or Vietnamese food with my dad and sister.

So, I probably used to like Christmas Eve better when I was younger and got to see my cousins; but with them having their own lives now, as with me, I've been enjoying Jewish Christmas with my immediate family and friends better instead.

Christmas Eve was definitely better as a kid for me because I got to go over to my grandparents’ house, hang out with my cousins, eat good food, open some presents early, AND still have the anticipation that night for the next morning. On Christmas Day itself, the magic kinda ended after you opened the presents and that evening you got a kind of weirdly depressing feeling now that you knew it was all over.

Even today, I still prefer Christmas Eve. In part because of nostalgia, in part because that’s still when the big meal is for my family usually. More drinking, too... It still just feels more special all around, though sadly not to the same extent it did when I was a kid.

Christmas Day. I’ve never done much on Christmas Eve except for preparing for the next day.
