In the 1972 US Senate Mississippi GOP primary, James Meredith defeats Gil Carmichael.

How does he do against Sen. Eastland in the GE? How, if at all, is the Presidential vote in MS (or elsewhere) affected?

Eastland, the Democrat, was openly supported by the Nixon Administration for re-election.  Had Meredith been the nominee, he'd have lost 80-20, which was the margin of the Presidential race.

Mississippi was the most racially polarized state in the Union in 1972, and may well be so presently.
