http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2006/50StateGovernor060119State.htm

Manchin is rocking at 80% approval.
Schweitzer continues to impress.

Oklahoma, Arizona, Wyoming and Kansas look in the bag for democrats.

Dems have to find a candidate in Alaska. 28% approval rating.
Arnold surely cant survive with a 34% approval rating.

Michigan, Oregon, Illinois should all be considered major concerns for the dems.

Democrats average
Approve = 55
Disapprove = 38

Republicans average
Approve = 53
Disapprove = 40

47% Approval; 46% Disapproval.

It's good to see that Gregoire has finally broken even:

Granholm's numbers are slowly improving, even though the economy is going downwards.

Ehrlich 48%-43% approval.  Interesting, that may be enough for him to hold on.  I wish there was a Lieutenant Governor option so we could see Steele's rating; I'm sure its higher.

I've always been critical of these numbers (even when Rendell had a close approval/disapproval) but if it's even slightly accurate then it's some great news in a week that wasn't all that good for Eddie.

He's consistantly been in the high 40's to mid 50's.  Depending on how this session goes, his numbers could take a major hit or skyrocket.  Trust me, this session is going to be brutal.  A lot is on the table.

Doyle

Approve: 46%
Disapprove: 45%

This one should be a close one, and hopefully Walker or Green will win it.

I think a good rule with polls like this is to average the last 3 or 4 months, as it tends to flatten out the outliers that naturally appear.

According to the approval poll, he'd be great for the coveted Hispanic 18-34 Republican Liberal Pro-Life Female With Some College Who Never Attends Church demographic!

1 in 20.  last one was likely an outlier.

There is a scandal hitting the dems in the state legislature.  Plus there are problems with the planning of the next state fair and lots of other little things which could be dragging him down.

Frankly, that doesn't quite explain to me why he's this far in the crapper.

Apparently, 17% of Democrats approve of Bob Taft.

Given that only 21% of Republicans approve, I have to wonder who the heck these Democrats are.

It's funny that the two Republiacns to gain Governor mansions in 2004 are both so unpopular now.

I think once you get that low it's gotten beyond the point to party politics to the point where you just have ~20% of the population who has no idea who Bob Taft is.

Why is Doyle so unpopular that it's like pulling a tooth to get an approval rating higher than his disapprovals?

Re: Doyle

First off, he's on odd looking fellow, and has very poor public speaking abilities. Second, the state is 50/50 on most issues anyway, third, the Republicans have the bully pulpit in the legislature.  Doyle can't get anything great passed without compromising, which annoys the Dem base, and doesnt get much credit from the republicans.  But Doyle does have a ton of money and is a prolific fundraiser. Plus, he will go dirty early, which will nail Green or Walker hard in an otherwise Dem tilted year. It will be close no matter what, but Doyle should pull it out based on existing trends in National Politics and his warchest.

O, and he's really really boring
