Good choice for a new thread title, if he survives.

Of course, if Boris losing/winning but not winning leads to a new PM who want's their own mandate and forces a GE...again, will the public finally stop getting the piss taken out of them?

Starker should just commit to no GE for five years.

“Vote for me, fellas - it’s going to be more of the same from here on out!”
Is this a failure of impulse control, or just a startling level of self-confidence?

I think that he knows he's toast and has decided to go out with his head held high as opposed to grovelling for absolution from the parliamentary party.

Honestly, assuming things go badly for his successor, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he resurfaces after the next GE for a comeback special.

It would be amusing if the vote in favour of Johnson was less than the number of those who have publicly backed him. IIRC this wasn't that far away from happening in 2018 with May.

Eh, people have short memories and the dearth of talent in the Conservative party is so great that I can see a gap in the market for him. Once he's no longer PM he can let the clown out of the straightjacket again and go back to being the loveable rogue he was prior to 2016.

Some variation on 'doing a Kevin Rudd' is not impossible, no...

Kevin Rudd was never this unpopular.

In each of those cases people eventually realised that they were c**ts after having been popular for a long time (including with people who wouldn't normally like their respective parties).

He might as well have gone the *Scooby-Doo* villain route.

Yeah, given the unpopularity & loss of parliamentary support, I could just as easily - if not moreso - see him acknowledging the writing on the wall, deciding that it's time to cash-in like all of his recent predecessors sans May & Heath, & writing to the new PM's Chancellor to apply for one of the 2 Crown offices listed in the House of Commons Disqualification Act 1975 so that he can begin to freely do so.

It will suck that the most likely Tory leader to take Johnson’s place would be someone even less conservative than him . Patel would be a great PM but is obviously too unpopular to ever become PM

I think 120 MPs vote against him, he survives, but resigns within a year. A general election is held in 2023 and Labour form a minority government.

If he falls tonight, though, I think the Tories claim that removing Boris was enough to "stop the rot." Barring a honeymoon that may not even survive an election campaign, they're incentivized to white-knuckle it through Thurs., Jan. 23rd, 2025.

Multiple journalists reporting that Theresa May has turned up to vote - wearing a ballgown.
Not sure whether she's finally embraced camp as an aesthetic, or she just has a fancy dinner reservation.
