If he does better than Trump, it won't be because of black voters. It'll be because of foolish white liberals/centrists in the Detroit suburbs.

All about right. If I were to call MI right now, assuming Biden was the nominee:

Statewide: Biden 50/48; Peters 52/46.
Macomb: Trump 43/55; James 48/50.
Oakland: Biden 53/45; Peters 55/43.
Black vote: Biden 91/8; Peters 91/8.

There seem to be proportionally somewhat fewer Black Republicans in the Midwest and West than in the Northeast and South.
