Abstain.

Okay, I have an idea that I didn't think of until now, but I don't know if it will work.  What if we get a whole bunch of suitable buyers, and hold an auction between all of them, would that work?

You mean like sell it to a bunch of different people so no one person would have the whole thing?

That might work, too, but that wasn't what I meant.  I meant get 20 or so companies that meet our standards and hold an auction between them.

Well I'm not sure how that is really different from my amendment, it makes the government find somebody good to buy it so......

Out of curiosity, who would be willing to buy the TVA?  I'd like to know if there's anyone who is, at least, currently interested.

I'm not exactly sure but I know there'd be somebody willing to buy it. There's also other people who know more about this than me.

You should consider having an IPO, so many people can buy into it  Take it public.

Also, is there any concern about foreign ownership?

That's a good idea. Sell shares, then spin it off as a corporation.

I urge all my fellow Senators to vote Aye on the amendments, simply because this is going to pass no matter what, I feel, so we might as well get the best deal we can.

Nay on both amendments. I support the idea of selling 49%, but keeping a majority stake. I would suggest that the 49% we sell should become publicly listed, so that the shares are bought by the public.

While I am with the Sneate on privatizing the TVA... as I think privitization of similar networks has been a possitive step in PA and we do need to eliminate the deficit... I think it should be done so on our terms and not just left up to the whims of investors or some corperation.

Aye to both, I guess.  I'd still be up in the air about this bill either way.  I would really like to know who might be interested in buying it before voting for something that would require us to sell it.

Nothing in the bill suggests that there should only be a single buyer. As far as I can tell, the text of the bill (at present) allows shares in the TVA to be sold to private investors, in the same fashion as shares of any normal company.

Ebowed already did that last week and you missed it, you'll have to re-introduce it in the legislation thread. Smiley

I'm not sure if we'd need an amendment to change it but I think we should change the last part to:

buyer or buyers
