This is hardly surprising on any level.

Trump might well have appealed to the highly masculine voters who traditionally found Republicans much too “genteel” and moralistic. Heavy metal music is often extremely anti-moralistic in its tone – there are many extremely famous examples of song in the genre that undoubtedly condone violence regardless of apologetics by the genre’s fans – but it has many attributes for which Trump has been criticised, especially its abusiveness towards or more often ignorance of women.

The genre could also appeal to the sense of personal power Trump wants to given his lower-middle-class and working-class white followers, and which was previously associated with much more left-wing political views.

Because the piece is paywalled, I find this one pretty interesting. NYT made fandom maps for 50 different musicians and it's interesting to see how musical tastes line up with political trends. Eminem in particular aligns with Obama/Trump areas.

I have extended family members who like his music and Trump. He sings about stuff Trump voters often like given mainstream country(especially if sung by a dude) is like catnip to that demographic.
On the other hand, Courtney Barnett’s fan base is a bunch of liberals and that’d be true even if she weren’t gay.
