I predict that if he wins with 70% of the vote he will be involved in a fatal plane crash.

So... less than 60% of Vermont backed Kerry over Bush, but they'll support a socialist over some RINO 70-25?

It's a socialist they already elected once...he beat that Greg Parke guy 67-24 in the 2004 congressional race. So he out-performed Kerry even then. Smiley

Probably the same people who thought Clinton & Spitzer's races will be competitive.

Actually, If I recall correctly, AuH2O said the race could be competitive if Tarrant spends a signicant amount of his personal money.  He also went on to say something along the lines of... Voters may not have a problem sending a socialist to the house, but the senate is a whole different ball game.

Are the Democrats even bothering to run a candidate?

No, I even think Sanders gets DNC money.

Sanders is a better Democrat than most Democrats.

He's not "a better Democrat", the Democrats is a liberal party, not a socialist one. There is a vast difference.

You have a point, Progress.  The Wellstone case does suggest that there are those that would like to keep leftist viewpoints out of the Senate...  it gives too much of a voice to the left compared to a mere house member.

Sanders once called himself a "small-s" socialist many years ago, but the whole crap about him being a true socialist has really gotten blown out of proportion.

And for the record, I don't think he'll receive any DNC money.

With numbers like this, Douglas could've not've done more than 20 points better than the current Republican candidates when he got less than Sanders in the last election and thus was in a far weaker position than William Weld and Tony Knowles.

I remember reading somewhere that he supported the War in Iraq, and he still does so to some extent.

Douglas? That'd doom him for sure.

No, I meant Sanders.  But I've checked out his voting record, and I have no idea where I got that from.  He voted against Iraq.
