With the exception of your stances on trade (which surprises me), amnesty and the death penalty most of your stances don't seem to seriously differ from most Democrats. IMO, the Democratic Party's leadership is way less pro-civil liberties than most of it's base by now in a lot of this country. Of course there are exceptions, like the South...

-race-based affirmative action
-I support some liability protections

I'm not counting gun control because the Democrats are doing exactly what I think they should on that issue, especially the chair of the DNC.

Isn't that the truth? I've been tempted to change my avatar to green more than a few times. Especially after that new wiretapping bill was passed. Bunch of sell outs.

The better question is on what issues do I not buck the party line....

I will answer this one regardless, though:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Farm Subsidies -favor gradual elimination, beginning with corporate conglomerates.

Agree.

Social Security -favor introducing private retirement accounts

Agree.

Medicare -favor health savings accounts and the Medicare Advantage Section C that allows senior citizens to choose among various private plans for their health coverage.

Sounds reasonable, but I favor Universal Health-care based on Switzerland's, so it's a moot point.

Welfare -support welfare reform law passed in 1996

Agree.

Medicaid -support allocation to states in the form of block grants in the same manner accorded to welfare subsidies.

See medicare.

Education -support school vouchers, charter schools, de-unionizing the teaching profession, and Bush's No Child Left Behind law (though with full -as opposed to partial- funding).

Disagree on the first and last bits. NCLB was a bureaucratic disaster, I would know since I lived through it. And vouchers cause public schools to become under-funded dumping grounds for anyone the private schools won't accept.

Environment -support expanding nuclear power.  On all other matters related to this issue, I am with the Democrats, though.

Not so sure about that. The problem with Nuclear Power is really the tremendous amount of nuclear waste it generates.

Abortion -favor overturning Roe vs. Wade, and leaving it to the states

Disagree, but I can see your reasoning here.

Gay Marriage -favor letting the states decide the issue as they see fit

Disagree, gay marriage bans are unconstitutional because of the 14th amendment.

Affirmative Action -oppose race and/or ethnic-based preferences in hiring and college admissions

Agree.

Immigration -will only support amnesty once the border is secured.

Pretty much agree.

Gun-Rights -oppose most forms of gun control except for background checks.  Favor individual interpretation of the Second Amendment.

Agree.

I more or less support Gay marriage, fully support Stem Cell research, support more or less complete legalization of all drugs, support eventual human cloning.

Largely on economic issues, seeing as I'm essentially centrist in that regard.

I'm pro-death penalty, leery of affirmative action, against banning smoking in public places and I'm becoming more of a moderate on economic issues.

as it turns out, I registered to vote today.  Well, I went down to the Iowa Department of Transportation (what in california is the DMV and in Massachusetts is the RMV) and got a driver's license.  It's pink.  Pink and blue, actually.  Very pretty.  and cheap.  23 bucks, and it's good for five years.  Anyway, while I was there, they asked if I wanted to register to vote, so I said, "yeah" and being that this state doesn't have modified open primaries--hell, it doesn't even have primaries--you have to pick one party or the other to make any difference.  So I picked the Republican party.  Guess I'll have to get pbrunsel to caucus with me for Ron Paul.  Go Ron!  So anyway, I'm a Republican now.  Guess I ought to get myself a nifty blue avatar.

Anyway, now that I'm a republican, I guess I can post in threads like these.  I suppose I buck the party line on a few things.  Me and Paul don't like imperialism, for starters.  Actually, that's the main thing.  I'm for legalized weed, prostitution, and stuff like that.  And I don't mind if two men get married.  But really, none of that will significantly affect my vote.  Mostly, it's all about US military involvement in Iraq.  And I'm against it.  Ron and I are, that is.  So that's probably my biggest beef with my party.
