If I could abolish just one department, this would be it. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has done enormous harm.

This is another utterly useless department. As far as I am aware, it does not include a single useful agency or program.

Would you guys mind explaining what good it is, or why there's a desperate need to keep it?

Without such programs, even more people would be homeless, Milk.

The department should be retained, but is clearly inadequate.  Its budget should be quadrupled.

Few cities are on federal lands.  I don't understand why the feds are controlling urban development.

That is not a problem that the federal government should be concerned about. In fact, I would go so far as to say that no level of government should be worried about this issue. If someone wants to buy a home, he should work to earn enough money, rather than simply stealing the money from someone else.

We should sell to the current inhabitants of public housing their unit for a dollar apiece, and abolish the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Yes, yes, I know.  But of course they cannot steal it, as it was already stolen, and is well guarded by those theives.

No, opebo, they steal it through the government. Theft is still theft, even if the majority happens to approve.

Yes, yes, of course I am aware of your thinking.  And the point is the government already stole it for the current elite long, long ago, and goes on doing so every day.

HUD has a very dirty job; one that most people would not want to deal with and tend to get ignored except during election years.  Trying to house the homeless and provide (and in cases declining) grants to the poor are tasks that are very difficult and emotionally draining.  Recently they have been involved with the Department of Labor to help employ adults with disabilities.

Definitely a department (or duties) to keep, but possibly reorganize or merge with another department.
