It seems like it will only be covered in passing on the night shows.

Because Kentucky and Mississippi aren't exactly the biggest of states.  Still, the utter void of polls for either state is pretty amazing (considering Louisiana has had like 10)

It doesn't really affect national politics, but they probably will be showing some of the results on the screen and I think we will se John King on CNN go through the result maps.

NJ politics is dead.

Plus impeachement.

The years after Presidenital races, NJ are VA are also right there for national media types for easy access.

It's not really a national election. There are state gubernatorial or legislative elections in only five states (LA, MS, KY, VA and NJ) and no federal elections anywhere. State/local-focused media pays attention to state elections, but national media uniformly does not; in years with federal elections, gubernatorial and state legislative elections are given little attention, too. And state/local media is dying a rather quick death at the moment.

They're [MS and KY] Safe Red States and without nearly the same kind of craziness as LA nor the proximity to The Beltway Media like NJ or VA.

All these elections seem fairly predictable. The main drama in 2017 was the Gillespie surge narrative, which of course did not end up being the result.

Another reason is waiting for MS results is like watching the paint dry.  Worst state ever.

Because, while Governor is a high office, these are intensely localized elections that have little or no impact on national politics. Many gubernatorial elections happening at the same time obviously get national coverage, as do occasional gubernatorial races that do have national implications (California 2003 and Wisconsin 2012 seem obvious), but these just aren't it.
