First you have to sell off all that federally owned land. Then, yes, abolish.

Agreed.  You know, if the government sold off land and it's other annuities, it'd have the money to end social(ist) (in)security.  It'd be hitting two birds with one stone.

More private property rights, less economic burdens.

This is yet another department that should never have been created in the first place. Ideally, all federal lands (excepting those used by the military or federal government agencies) would be privatized, and the department would be abolished. Sadly, this is not going to happen.

The Department of the Interior is our effort as a society to carry out the will of a force that is bigger than all of us.

To attempt to abolish it is spitting in the face of a higher force, not just an agency.

There is nothing wrong with the government setting aside land on a national level for preservation.  I'm just sad that there isn't more done to preserve more land across the US, especially the areas with old, natural forests.

And what precisely is this so-called "higher force"?

And what precisely is this so-called "higher force"?

The force of nature that governs us all and commands us to live by its will.

no, after all, Jessica simpson doesn't think so.  She thinks the secretary of the interior picks out the carpeting and wallpaper.

That is a rather interesting concept, to say the least.

How do you know that this "force of nature" will always want the Department of the Interior to be around?

When she met Secretary Gale Norton during a White House tour, she said, "You've done a nice job decorating the White House."

No.  Why abandon our national parklands, including some of the only traces of wild areas left in this country, to development and commercialization?
