THE DANCE OF THE DRAGONS

King Viserys I Targaryen had three children by his first queen, Aemma Arryn, but only one, Princess Rhaenyra, survived to adulthood. Lacking a son to succeed him, Viserys began to train Rhaenyra to be his heir. Young Rhaenyra was included in discussions of the affairs of state, and was allowed to participate in meetings of the small council. Many of the nobles took note, and Rhaenyra soon acquired a clique of adherents and supporters. After the passing of Queen Aemma in 105 AC, Viserys named Rhaenyra his heir and hundreds of lords and landed knights paid obeisance to her.

The king remarried in 106 AC, this time to Alicent Hightower, and had four more children: Aegon, Helaena, Aemond, and Daeron.

In 111 AC, a great tourney was held at King's Landing on the fifth anniversary of Viserys's marriage to Alicent. During the opening feast, Queen Alicent wore a green gown, while Princess Rhaenyra dressed in the red and black of House Targaryen. Note was taken, and thereafter it became the custom to refer to "greens" and "blacks" when talking of the queen's party and the party of the princess, respectively. Wearing Rhaenyra's favor, Ser Criston Cole unhorsed all of Alicent's champions in the tourney...
The signs of the rift were apparent to even the humblest of fools. Viserys spent a good deal of his otherwise peaceful reign quelling fires in his own courtyard. Those are too numerous to tell here, a further tiding boding ill for the succession. But there is time yet, little as it may be, to prevent the greatest disaster to the Blood of Valyria since the Doom...

It is now 126 AC, and with the stage set, comes the introduction of our players:

VISERYS THE FIRST - Dereich
AEGON TARGARYEN - DKrol
DAEMON TARGARYEN - KaiserDave

STATE OF AFFAIRS, 3rd Quarter of 126 AC

KING VISERYS I
PRESTIGE: 9
LEGITIMACY: 10
COFFERS: 4,000,000 GD

1. Princess Rhaenyra is rumored to travel to King's Landing from Dragonstone to argue over the inheritance of Driftmark given the lack of heirs to Corlys Velaryon, asking it be granted to her son. There still is some time to figure this matter out, mayhaps a few moons...

2. It has been some time since any royal progress was made, yet sending Rhaenyra undoubtedly means sending Daemon, and sending Aegon would almost certainly send the wrong message with Rhaenyra as designated heir... It has been some time since your own person sat atop your dragon to observe your kingdom, though with your age maybe another candidate would be preferable

AEGON TARGARYEN
PRESTIGE: 5
LEGITIMACY: 2
COFFERS: 50,000 GD

1. You have not bedded your wife in three moon's turns, yet you have fathered a bastard. The child has the look, but it is up to you whether or not to recant his parentage.

2. Your son is growing up to be 'soft' without your attendance, more often left with servants or your mother. Will you try and rectify this, or continue to let the wine flow?

DAEMON TARGARYEN
PRESTIGE: 7
LEGITIMACY: 4
COFFERS: 200,000 GD

1. Your 'Kingdom' in the Stepstones collapsed almost the instant you grew bored with it, though you did fatten your purse and grow your own respect in the world, as did Corlys Velaryon, who pressures you to join a new venture with him to grow both of your wealths...

LARYS STRONG
PRESTIGE: 2
LEGITIMACY: N/A
COFFERS: Huh??

1. HuhHuh, Huh ?? Huh? ? Huh HuhHuh? ?? Huh HuhHuh??

2. HuhHuh Huh ? Huh? HuhHuh ?? ? Huh??

AEMOND TARGARYEN
PRESTIGE: 6
LEGITIMACY: 3
COFFERS: 20,000 GD

1. A match has not yet been made for you, and at the rate the rest of the fools pratter on it seems better for you to take the matter into your own hands if you aspire to be anything more than a rutting stallion for the dynasty.

OTTO HIGHTOWER
PRESTIGE: 6
LEGITIMACY: 5
COFFERS: 60,000 GD

1. The reign of Viserys has been peaceful... Maybe too much so. You have not had a chance for your reputation to soar, rather it is bogged down by the fact you've been sacked twice from your current position. Things are going well enough now to be sure, but is passive how you want to be remembered by the maesters and singers, if remembered at all?

LYMAN BEESBURY
PRESTIGE: 9
LEGITIMACY: 10
COFFERS: 450,000 GD

1. The coffers of the Iron Throne are full, and you have kept the books in the black perpetually for decades... Yet one of your closest courtiers wonders if more aggressive lending and investing by the crown could grow this amount even more, and snidely suggests that the more coin flows in, the more seems to be lost in the inherent shuffle of things....

TYLAND LANNISTER
PRESTIGE: 4
LEGITIMACY: 5
COFFERS: 180,000 GD

1. You have always stood in the shadow of your older(slightly older) twin brother Jason; he is Lord of Casterly Rock, and you are left to climb your own way up. Given a solid amount of inheritance and your own ingenuity, you are in good position in King's Landing to continue climbing the ranks, and perhaps even pulling some power beneath yourself. The world is your oyster as is said in Lys...

Corlys Velaryon
PRESTIGE: 10
LEGITIMACY: 10
COFFERS: 5,000,000 GD

1. You remain in bed, so ill that talk of your succession has become an open topic. Only time will tell of the Sea Snake can weather this mayhaps final storm, and though you are too weak to put pen to paper yourself, you still have maesters to pen letters for you.

ARWYN TYRELL/OAKHEART
PRESTIGE: 2
LEGITIMACY: 3
COFFERS: 1,500,000 GD

1. You are young, and your son and the rightful lord of the Reach is a babe in arms. It is crucial at this time to use the support of the crown to consolidate power under yourself of the mainland houses currently less than absolutely loyal to you; Rowan of Goldengrove, Tarly of Horn Hill, Florent of Brightwater Keep, Bulwer of Blackcrown, Costayne of Three Towers, Redwyne of the Arbor, Peake of Starpike, and most importantly, Hightower of Oldtown.

2. The Shield islands are in even worse shape. With the peace Targaryen rule has brought from the ironborn, their independence grows. It must needs be nipped in the bud, and your immediate actions here will do much for popularity and legitimacy on the mainland. Your councilors have various propositions for their fealty;

-A show of force. Show up with a decent host and demand audience, or better yet, with a fleet and be prepared to make an example of a minor or major shield island house to force the rest under heel.

-Statecraft and Diplomacy. Arrange marriages with the houses, make bribes and bring gifts.

-Intrigue. Infiltrate the the main power houses of isle and dismantle them, using bribes, uncovered secrets and by playing them against eachother.

Ser Vaemond Velaryon is named as an assistant to the Master of Ships. Ser Vaemond will attend the imminent meeting of the Small Council, albeit without formal title or office.

By the word of Ser Otto Hightower, Hand of the King

TURN 2

STATE OF AFFAIRS, 4th Quarter of 126 AC

KING VISERYS I
PRESTIGE: 9
LEGITIMACY: 10
COFFERS: 4,000,000 GD

1. Princess Rhaenyra has sent word ahead that she will be arriving in 3 days(A mid-turn update)

2. The Small Council is awaiting input and judgment on some key matters.

AEGON TARGARYEN
PRESTIGE: 5
LEGITIMACY: 2
COFFERS: 50,000 GD

1. You have not bedded your wife in six moon's turns, yet you have fathered a bastard.

1. Rhaenyra has asked you to travel to King's Landing with her, but before you had decided whether or not to depart with her, a Pentoshi diplomat arrived. The Dothraki are threatening their hinterlands in numbers unforeseen, and are not satisfied with the usual bribes. They ask for your assistance in this matter, asking you to command their mercenary forces and to ride Caraxes into battle against the Dothraki to strike fear into the fearless. They offer you what they were offering the Dothraki, 150,000 GD as well as a wealth of slaves and goods. You would likely be able to negotiate these terms, though the slaves would not be welcome in Westeros by any means, and Rhaenyra would almost certainly refuse them port on Dragonstone, though you could mayhaps sell them.

AEMOND TARGARYEN
PRESTIGE: 6
LEGITIMACY: 3
COFFERS: 20,000 GD

1. A match has not yet been made for you, and at the rate the rest of the fools pratter on it seems better for you to take the matter into your own hands if you aspire to be anything more than a rutting stallion for the dynasty.

OTTO HIGHTOWER
PRESTIGE: 6
LEGITIMACY: 5
COFFERS: 79,000 GD

1. Lord Hightower has sent 50 men and 12 knights, along with 20,000 GD. Ser Bryndon leads these knights, and Hobert Hightower has also consented to come.

2. Lord Owyle has sent a personal raven and shipped a parcel to the maester on Driftmark to aid in the recovery of Lord Velaryon.

3. Your goodwill in the city is slowly on the move, but a more bold and grand showing may do more.

LYMAN BEESBURY
PRESTIGE: 9
LEGITIMACY: 10
COFFERS: 450,000 GD

1. With the notion of a new fleet seeming to go forward, it is time you think about how best to pay for this. New taxes, a loan, and the royal coffers would be your main options, but maybe you have other ideas?

TYLAND LANNISTER
PRESTIGE: 4
LEGITIMACY: 5
COFFERS: 170,000 GD

1. The Fleet is seeming to go forward towards expansion, and your reforms are being put in place.

CORLYS VELARYON
PRESTIGE: 10
LEGITIMACY: 10
COFFERS: 5,000,000 GD

1. Princess Rhaenyra departs for King's Landing in a matter of days; do you attempt to dispatch the young bastard Velaryons to beat her there, or trust to a raven and Vaemond Velaryon to see your bidding done?

ARWYN TYRELL/OAKHEART
PRESTIGE: 2
LEGITIMACY: 3
COFFERS: 1,500,000 GD

1. The regency council has placed Lord Tarly in control of your forces, and raised 2000 men to be distributed throughout the isles. These are some of the cream of the crop, with Lord Tarly himself bringing half of them. This immediately quells any insurgency... Except for the isle of Greenshield. The Lord Chester has refused the lordling in command to leave the port with his 400 men, claiming he cannot feed and house them and won't have them stirring up trouble on the island. Lord Tarly asks for instructions on how to proceed. It is noted that Rhaenys and Corlys Velaryon spent time here, and mayhaps they could aid in diplomatically bringing the shield islands into the fold? Lord Tarly insists on this being a good time to make an example of any would-be upstarts however...
