Somebody tell me there are two more people apart from Hughento left in the Pacific who might vote yet, and that they'll vote yes. And that Hugh will do so too. Please...

Thankfully, Section 2 of the Amendment gives voters an either-or option. That way, if you don't want to vote by Secret Ballot, you don't have to. That swayed my vote to a Yea, although the Nay's also have good arguments.

Well, time to go edit out the stuff on the secret ballot from my electoral reform bill, in light of this amendment's obviously inevitable failure.

Well this is starting to look like the Australian republican movement.  They made such a lot of noise for so long, and for a long time it looked like they were winning the battle for public opinion.  But when it finally came to a vote, the whole thing came crashing down.  I'm disappointed, but not really surprised.

I suppose it's fairly redeeming to see that in terms of total popular votes, the amendment is currently only trailing by 1 vote.

Don't get me wrong, though.  I still envisage a last minute turn around.

I'm assuming King's vote doesn't count.  He's a dormant voter, and wasn't a resident of the Pacific when he left.

He can re-register in another state, can't he?

Updated, I'm not sure if King's vote counts so I'm not counting it yet.

I don't understand, how can you call them freedom fighters?  I understand your argument against the amendment, it makes a lot of sense and I seriously considered voted against it, but regardless, what freedom are you fighting for, exactly?

No offense meant, it's just a question.
