I'd say given the way it's been going since 2000, probably not. But, they do have the occasional Democratic official elected there, like Manchin, and up until he became a Republican, Jim Justice. Discuss.

Yes, when the Eastern Pahandle/DC exurbs and Kanawha/Monogalia Counties grow dramatically and start voting Democratic by 20+ points

There are theoretical Democrats who could win pretty much any state south of the Ohio. Still. Assuming this environment of hyper-polarization is a temporary thing.

If Trump wins re-election and further unravels into complete parody, leading to utter disillusionment, there's another massive financial crisis and recession, Russia annexes Ukraine without a peep from Trump, the GOP trots out Mike Pence as the 2024 nominee who continues to apologize for Trump, and a Doug Jones-esque southern moderate captures the Democratic nomination...

Also coal completely dies during Trump's second term...

Such a candidate would have zero chance in Idaho, Wyoming, and Oklahoma, but West Virginia could go Democrat.

Yes, it could happen in 2024, when Biden runs for reelection, and Ojeda is Sen-elect from WVa taking over Manchin seat

It is theoretically possible, given that a plurality of registered voters in this state are registered to the Democratic party, especially in the southern part of the state.

However, many of these voters haven't voted D for high-ranking offices recently, because of the declining influence of labor unions as well as Democrats' corporatism.

I think Democrats' best shot in this state is to run populist, anti-establishment candidates. Even if they don't flip it outright immediately, this strategy could pay dividends over time if done repeatedly (remember how Ojeda performed 30+ points better in 2018 compared to 2016 results in his district).

It'll happen eventually - the parties coalitions have generally been too fluid for states to eternally be with one party and never is an extremely long time - but it won't happen any time soon.

When does this happen? 2090?

My point exactly. West Virginia may not vote Democratic for another seventy or eighty years.
