This article reads as classic concern trolling. Let me reframe what the thesis should be: this will be a competitive race because Jones has a personal appeal in the area as someone who's been in office forever, but though he portrays himself as moderate on several important issues, he then votes with the Republican majority when push comes to shove. Also he and Trump are of the same party. Therefore: competitive.

Still a lot of interesting anecdotes in here, including Jones' face-off with his would-be robber, and then this quote from his opponent that really struck me considering I identify strongly with this, personally:

“I remember the days I couldn’t wait to get to school because that was my meal,” he said. “That breakfast, that lunch. . . . And then on Fridays the cafeteria workers would slip you a bag with food.”

The fairest district map is the one that elects the fewest members from the most unfair party.

In that case, Maryland has the fairest maps.

Fun fact: it's impossible to draw a Republican-leaning congressional district in Massachusetts.

You can actually draw an R+3 district, but in practice it would never happen.
