William Martin Walker, an American attorney and politician who served as the 11th governor of Alaska from 2014 to 2018, has withdrawn his bid for re-election, endorsing Democratic candidate and former Senator Mark Begich for the position.
Not long enough.
The 11th Governor of the State of Alaska, William Martin "Bill" Walker, an independent politician, chose to cease his 2018 campaign for re-election two-&-a-half weeks prior to Election Day so as to support the Democratic Party's nominee, former Class II United States Senator from Alaska Mark Peter Begich, as part of an eventually unsuccessful attempt to deny the Republican Party's nominee, then-Alaska State Senator from the E district (and the future 12th Governor of the State of Alaska) Michael J. "Mike" Dunleavy, an opening to break through & obtain the governorship via a split in the state of Alaska's center-to-left vote.
